And there were no homosexual characters and no profanity. Imagine.

When I was in high school in the mid 1960’s, `beaver’ referred to a girl seated in a car with her miniskirt riding up until her uh, ahem, ahem, was visible (and all girls wore panties in those days).
Oh, those summer jobs pumping gas at the local Gulf station, the summers of 1965, ‘66, and ‘67. Girls driving Volkswagens offered the best possibilities. I got one gal’s address off her credit ticket and we dated for awhile.
(Sigh)

I don’t know who Sherman Billingsley is (the name doesn’t compute!).
But there was a Billingsley who starred in a hilarious movie about a kid who wanted a BB gun for Christmas. Later as an adult he co-produced the movie, ‘Zarthustra’, I believe.
Is that who you mean?

That was Peter Billingsly. I don’t think they are related. BTW...do a search for Peter Billingsly; you will feed instantly old (but he turned out to be a handsome man).
Regards,

Her bit in "Airplane" was fabulous, as the "Jive Interpreter!"
And I grew up watching her in re-runs.

Smoking was tolerated everywhere.Well, not on public transit (except for designated areas) or at fuel pumps, to cite a couple of examples. Incidentally, IIRC, Ward Cleaver (Hugh Beaumont) would smoke a pipe on the show and no one thought anything of it.

That was my favorite episode!
