SAINT ROBERT, Mo. (Oct. 5, 2010) Mayors arent elected on a partisan political ballot and dont commonly make political endorsements, but St. Robert Mayor George Sanders made an exception Monday by deciding to endorse State Rep. Dan Brown, a Rolla Republican who is running against State Sen. Frank Barnitz, a Democrat from Dent County, for the 16th State Senate District. Dr. Brown is the type of leader Missouri needs as we face uncertain economic times, Sanders said in a prepared statement. I am convinced that his conservative values and sense of fiscal responsibility will serve us well as our voice in the Missouri Senate. Rep. David Day, a Dixon Republican and cattleman whose district includes most of Pulaski County, said hes glad to see the mayor of the second-largest city in his State House district endorse Brown. Whenever you look at the 16th Senatorial District, St. Robert is one of the larger cities in the district, it is certainly one of the more progressive and growing cities in the district Day said. Sanders is an African-American mayor and retired senior Army NCO in a community with a large African-American population, many of whom are also former military personnel.
