Capitalism Saved the Miners
WSJ ^ | OCTOBER 14, 2010 | Daniel Henninger

Posted on 10/15/2010 9:34:31 AM PDT by nuconvert

It needs to be said. The rescue of the Chilean miners is a smashing victory for free-market capitalism.

Amid the boundless human joy of the miners' liberation, it may seem churlish to make such a claim. It is churlish. These are churlish times, and the stakes are high.

Absolutely!!!! The U.S. companies that assisted are ALL small businesses. It’s a miracle that Obamunism didn’t wreck them during these last two years. And I’ll bet none of them were ‘stimulus’ recipients.

Hooray for Center Rock and Schrammm and the Americans who manned the drilling machinery and engineered the proper drill hole. Without American participation they would still be drilling

Compare the way the Chilean president handled crisis with the way 0bama handled the oil spill crisis. I hope somebody is planning to use this comparison in a 2012 presidential campaign commercial.

Excellent point.

Just wondering how long before the entire crew is at the Rose Garden?
With Obama for a photo-op.

I say it happens before the election.
Planned or unplaned.
The October surprise?

Check out the original WSJ article and go to the comments. They are full of nasty left/liberal comments that denigrate how our American companies drilled and rescued the miners and denigrate our capitalist system. What are so many no good lefties doing reading the Wall Street Journal?

I appreciate Daniel Henninger’s work in the WSJ. And, even better, Mary Anastasia O’Grady’s coverage of Latin America.

Today's Chile is the product of the Chicago School of Economics re-orientation of the economy after Allende.

Leftists described the economic model as one that exploits workers.

What emerged, however, is a self-reliant economy where capital and labor interests are balanced on the basis of economic common sense.

There was another company with a large role in this: UPS. They picked up the drill rig and the drill bits and delivered them to the Chilean desert in less than 48 hours.
