You may well be right about that 2/5 number.
I see the whole political conversation moving to the right, as we see in the broader numbers reflected in the mid-term races. Of course, the votes still need to be counted...
It’s much more likely he’s reached a limit...a point of resistance for the time being...When you see numbers bunching like that, I find myself asking, is it more likely to break upward or break downward?
My bet is on downward.
I think it's probably more that 1/5 are the commies and the other 1/5 are ____ .

There may be considerable overlap of descriptive labels.
I totally agree. But think through the next step. WHY would one of those 40% who still APPROVE or STRONGLY APPROVE of him switch to DISAPPROVE or STRONGLY DISAPPROVE of him at this point in time or in the future?
Think about it.
Is it more likely because they will have a eureka moment and suddenly love Ronald Reagan and Sarah Palin's message of individual responsibility, or because they are frustrated with Obama not delivering the Socialist Utopian freebies they think they deserve?
I suspect that his support will fall further, but only because the true believers are upset that he hasn't destroyed the "dirty capitalist-colonialist-fatcats" enough.
