I can't speak for other parents. We private school and closet home school when I see a gap. I pay CLOSE attention to what is being taught. There are some things I can't do such as “jazz band”, “art” or experience the satisfaction of forensics or debate. That is best handled in a school environment.
The rest I supplement on a situation by situation basis and keep them in Johns Hopkins courses. We do what we can to make sure they KNOW something. We need alot of kids, that KNOW something.
Considering the vast amounts of these books on store shelves, it’s as if all of America home schools. I naturally wonder what on earth is taking place in classrooms. Not much it seems. Perhaps every day is Earth Day, and so the time is spent in gaia worship.
That's what we did when our oldest was in public school. Now that she is in private school, she is actually being educated at school. But we won't be able to afford it for all four kids, so we will soon be joining the ranks of homeschoolers. As a former government school teacher myself, I am committed that none of us will darken the doors of those educational wastelands called public schools again.
