Trapped Chilean Miners Rescue Beginning. Live Coverage
(Excerpt) Read more at guardian.co.uk ...
MSNBC has Homer Hickam via Skype. I’m definitely not turning it off.
I saw that ... I thought they sent one back...
This has been so moving - I wish FNC would get with the program.
Also on MSNBC, they said about a billion people are watching this right now.
For those of you with some Spanish, the banter down below is great!
(kicking self in ass right now for never taking Spanish in school)
Loved that interview with Homer...he was sure happy!
I wish I could catch more of it -- I haven't used my Spanish since I moved to the city nearly 30 years ago...
Jimmy Sanchez, one of the 33 Chilean miners who have been trapped for over two months in the San Jose copper-gold mine in the Atacama Desert, would like to make one small correction to all the stories about life in the mine:
There are actually 34 of us, the nineteen-year-old miner wrote in a letter sent up from the mine on Tuesday, because God has never left us down here.
I haven’t been part of this discussion until now, and this is the only thing I will say about this issue...
Dang...I hope we get a President who will show love for his people in the United States of America in 2012!
I haven’t seen the President of Chile playing golf or anything other than making sure the citizens know that he’s involved, and wants the best outcome of a truly horrible situation.
That being said.......we’re witnessing a miracle!
Urzua said the men are cleaning up their underground space, "but we don't have any place to put the garbage"Tea Party material! Send down trash bags. The contrast between this story and anything associated with Obama is striking. Yet this kind of story used to be America's trademark. Come on voters. Recognize the pattern, remember our past and restore it!
Amen and amen! We can recover the national pride and attitude that won World War II for the world.
How awesome is that! Mario in his interview with his family said - one that he does not want to be treated like a celebrity because he is still a miner at heart. He talked too about people should never take for granted their wives and their children, love them and think twice before ever hurting them.
It looks like they are attaching a cam to the top of the capsule.
You know, the capsule kind of looks like a bobsled, and they have it all decorated with Chile colors
They report that the president was not there to greet Sanchez, he is taking a rest.
Understandible, he has a long day (and another night) to go.
Anyone know if there was a problem with that wheel or are the replacing all of them?
I know of many people in our country who could learn a thing or two from these guys!
what happens to the mine
after the rescue?
.....................
sealed up?
extreme-adventure tourist attraction?
For sure!
Next up will be Osmán Araya. Aged 30, he has been among the most emotional of the miners. In a message to his wife he said: “I’m sending my greetings to Angelica. I love you so much, darling. Tell my mother, I love you guys so much. I’ll never leave you, I will fight to the end to be with you.”
Araya is the brother-in-law of Florencio Ávalos Silva, whose brother is also down in the mine.
Great photos here of the rescue...more to be added:

I would pay money to see a certain group of our politicians put in this type of situation and see how they hold up! Do ya think they would pass that kind of test?
