Trapped Chilean Miners Rescue Beginning. Live Coverage
(Excerpt) Read more at guardian.co.uk ...
"Capsule will do one dry run empty. Then a rescuer will go down and come up again. Then we'll get cracking hopefully
Thanks for the ping, my FRiend.
I haven’t posted in what seems like forever. Many, many family health issues keep me occupied with other more important responsibilities.
For many reasons I have a good feeling about this rescue of these tough, brave and strong-willed men.
Two of those reasons are American ingenuity and American workers. One, the bits used for drilling were made in good old Salem, VA, home of Morgan Griffith, who is the Republican running against democrat Rich Boucher in the hotly contested 9th congrssional district, and my home, as well. Second, the drill operator is from America, and he knows “the feel” of the drill making its way down the hard rock.
Seriously though, my God be with all the rescuers, the families of these miners and most of all, the miners themselves.
I surely hope the Chilean government and press never release the names of the miners. If so, they will be hounded for interviews and most likely book and movie deals. If their names are released I would hope they ask for as much money as possible for book and movie rights. Quite simply, they have earned the rights to all the money they can get.
Guy on CNN said they would load in some sandbags to simulate the weight of a man for a test run.
The cable attachment has to be internal so that in case it is trapped by a rock GOING UP the internal catchment can be released allowing the capsule to return to the bottom ~ otherwise it’d just be stuck in the tunnel and they’d need to drill another one.
It depends on their mood. Sometimes they just laugh and laugh...
bkmk
Through a very long period of "selection" these miners don't suffer from claustrophobia.
That would make more sense. Why risk another life, thanks
Oh goodness, I hope I never have a tech like that!!!
Glad to see you on, my FRiend. I have not followed the story very closely; but, this evening I think I heard that the drill was made in PA, not VA. Perhaps part one place and part in another?
Boucher needs to GO! Needs to have that smirk wiped right off his moon face. Maybe I need to cross the state line and do some groundwork for Morgan.
Hey there tet; hope you are well.
I think the drill was built in PA, but the bits were made in Salem. The ultra liberal rag Roanoke Times had a story about the company a few weeks ago.
Well, the capsule has been bought back up and they are banging on it with a hammer again.
something is wrong with the door, they are banging on it with a hammer, must have got bent on the way down on the test run
Why are they banging the capsule with a hammer? Is it because it gets dented on the journey down and up.
Anyone know the temperature?
I apologize is someone has asked and this has been answered already. I was watching live on BOR’s show and Alan Colmes was on.
Has Alan Colmes had a facelift or Botox? eee gads!
“Why are they banging the capsule with a hammer?”
Because banging on it with a loaf of bread wouldn’t accomplish anything?
“Anyone know the temperature?”
Someone said that it is in the mid 40s topside.
“The best laid schemes o’ Mice an’ Men, gang aft agley.”
