Komen for the Cure Donated $7.5M to Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz in 2009

Washington, DC -- October is the month for breast cancer awareness, but it's difficult for pro-life advocates to lend their support to one of the primary organizations involved in the fight against breast cancer because it has provided contributions to the Planned parenthood abortion business.

Wow!
That’s a dirty pity.
Seriously.
The shepherd is out to lunch on this.

Ask Conlon if his moral relativism allows support for the Shriners despite the fact they are Masons.

I agree. After shutting down six churches (that truthfully had very low attendance, our diocese needed to be consolidated) he is now floating a capital campaign to build a brand new, $9 million cathedral. The older folks are ticked because they took part in the capital campaign that built the current cathedral. The younger folks are ticked because he closed down schools that their children attended- the schools did not need to be shut down. In fact, when he closed the one that I live by he didn’t even tell the staff and faculty himself. He sent a priest to do it in the middle of the school day. A friend of mine taught there- she said all the students were so upset because the teachers just started crying. Imagine being told you’re not going to have a job next school year during lunch- how can you be expected to keep calm with the kids? It was very sad.

It is very frustrating for us. We keep hearing sermons on socialism. Is it rude to walk out? We can’t stop going to church. We really don’t know what to do, other teach our son that socialism and infanticide is wrong regardless of what the bishop says.

IMO, it is not rude to walk out.

Talk with your wallet. Catholic Answers Forums are a good resource to find a more “Historically Catholic” parish. Ask the members there to if they know of a good parish in your area.
Go there and take your envelopes with you.

That’s what we did!

What diocese are you in? We are preparing to move to southeast Ohio soon.

I walked out in 1996, the 4th collection that day was a nun, who paraphrased from those who have to those who have not..........the marxism rolled on .

I got up and left, I haven't been back except for funerals. I miss the church I grew up in, we now worship at home.

Steubenville, and I think it is the largest (landwise) diocese in the nation. I’d have to do a double check on that though. It’s a great diocese otherwise. We have Franciscan University and they are a great influence on the area.

I believe that is the diocese we will be in. Don’t Scott and Kimberly Hahn come from that area? I met her several years ago at a conference and can’t remember where they were from.

Maybe there’s something wrong with me, but if I donate to a charity (especially a medically-related one like the heart or cancer societies, or the March of Dimes), I expect them to spend the money on the cause to which I donated. Yeah, there are always administrative costs - not a big deal, unless it is abusive. However, donating to another charity IS ABUSIVE of the trust of the donors.

I’m glad that I never gave to Komen, and I’m going to stop putting soda can tabs away for those that do.

Don't stop.

Just give them to Ronald McDonald House Charities instead.

Hey, thanks for posting this. now I can be annoyed at them with a clear conscience and avoid any of their endorsed items. I always figured they were just another bunch of libs and in fact just the other day (after this month long intrusion into football - 1 week would have been tolerable) I said to hubby that I wondered how much of the money they raise ever does anything to help any one with breast cancer or to fund any doctor or scientist who is actually treating or fighting cancer.
