I don't want to hear "Vote for Smith, he's a veteran". Likewise, I'm not particularly interested in "Vote for Smith, he's a (businessman|physician|lawyer|actor|preacher|whatever)". Unfortunately, those things really don't tell me much about how Smith will perform, if elected.
I want to hear "Vote for Smith, he believes in X, Y, and Z". The personal stuff might lend some credence to his claims on issues, but the issues are paramount.
I completely agree...However all to often we don’t get the truth from pols what they beleive...The more background, the more information we have to decide the better....
And we have enough lawyers in politics, and not enough servicemen and servicewomen.
Understood, although I give veterans, particularly those who served in combat, a closer look in primaries where there are several competing for the nomination.
Now they’re doing battle with democrats, so it’s an easy choice. The combat veteran Republican over the democrat.
