Business Conference: Lynne Cheney 'interviews' Dick Cheney

Close to 10,000 people crowded into the Bakersfield Business Conference's main tent to see former Vice President Dick Cheney be "interviewed" by Lynne Cheney, his wife of 46 years.

Collecting that many people all under one tent roof is a sight to see, and Mrs. Cheney commented on what a great crowd the conference had brought together.

"It's almost enough to make you want to run for office again," the former vice president quipped. "Almost."

Dick Cheney worked with four of the five Republican presidents following the Eisenhower administration. With that in mind, Mrs. Cheney asked, "So who's your favorite

Dick Cheney answered, "I got to work for all those presidents because I never said who was my favorite."

But Cheney is writing a book, and he allowed that the answer to that question might someday appear in print.

Cheney was just 34 when he became chief of staff in the Ford White House. Every president, he said, brought his own set of experiences and priorities to the job.

His proudest accomplishment came because of something that didn't happen: The nation did not suffer another devastating terrorist attack in the years following Sept. 11.

His greatest fear? A nuclear weapon in the hands of a terrorist.

"We came to the point that we could no longer treat terrorist attacks as a simple law enforcement problem," he told the appreciative crowd. "They were an act of war."

I make no apologies, I still think Dick Cheney is handsome. That’s my personal opinion so leave me alone with my views;) Anyway, I have always liked him and Lynne. I just wish he were younger so we could get a little more wear out of him but, that is the selfish part coming out of me. God bless them both.

The Vice President had the guts and fortitude to stay the course and take Saddam out. To many people in both America and Europe and elsewhere seem to not understand the Saudi and other key players in the Mid East where quite grateful GWB decided to take out the Butcher of Baghdad.
The bastard and his minions where a destabilizing entity in a crucial part of the world. The Russians had a field day for to long in supporting the clown. Dick, Rummy and others along with the last president knew full well the importance of going after Saddam on a number of issues.
Saddam had every intention of revitalizing his nuclear program once the oil for food program and sanctions where lifted.
And it would be hard pressed for one to convince the world that he had no problem in sponsoring Islamic terror. Hell he bragged about it. Offered suicide bomber's families money if their sons went to Israel to blow up innocent people etc..
Dick along with George knew what had to be done. And they did it.
I salute Dick Cheney for his service to this country.

If it can help a revitalized Republican (conservative oriented) party. Yes. Otherwise perhaps they to should plan nice trips on quiet trout streams in their lovely state, and enjoy their later years in peace with family and friends. They gave their share to this country.
