It's one year after two New Madrid earthquakes have devastated the Mississippi Valley.
Battalions of foreign peackeepers are occupying Tennessee, at the invitation of the President. Phil Carson, (from "Enemies Foreign And Domestic"), and three strangers are hiding in a well-stocked cave, which is a guerrilla fighter's lair. Across the region Kazakh "contract peacekeepers" are wiping out the last remaining American holdouts, who have rejected the federal government's order to abandon their homes and move to "relocation centers."
This scene is in the middle of the novel.

Don't laugh, it happened in the last big quake on this fault in the early 1800’s.

Very scary. I think this could happen (foreign “peacekeepers”) with this president.

“Maybe theyll get a volcano.”
If they do, I hope it’s at Graceland.

It has the capability of being the greatest disaster in this country in a long time. I have a son who lives in Memphis and I really want him out of there....for several reasons....this being one.

There was an earthquake a little more powerful than this a few weeks ago in New Hampshire, and it wasn't even along a known fault line.
I hope there is a massive electoral earthquake in early November.

A 3.O magnitude earthquake is very small.

Women and minorities will be hardest hit.

Back in my younger days I did a lot of caving in Missouri and Arkansas with OHG (Ozarks Highland Grotto). There were several cave trips where the cave passage was actually a fault line. Believe me, the thought of an earthquake was always in the back of my mind. Especially when the passage was so tight you had to exhale all your breath to squeeze through!

We all know this one is due. I hope all good freepers have emergency supplies ready at all times. Not necessarily. A year or two ago seismologists from Northwestern, Purdue, and the University of Missouri suggested that the New Madrid Fault is actually shutting down.

Numerous small earthquakes can be a precursor to a big one.

That would be good - my mother and two of my brothers are in the area likely to be affected by a major quake... (Not in the ‘red zone’, but well within the ‘yellow’...)

The area produced 8.0 magnitude quakes, all occurring within a three-month period between December 1811 and February 1812. So, if it becomes active it might not be very small.

Not the Ouchitas, the Ozarks.
Called a friend in Little Rock, did notice it there.

Yep, its barely measurable and certainly cannot be felt by humans unless they are right at the epicenter and it is shallow.
It would be scary though to live near the New Madrid fault, glad I live a long way from it in California.

Not necessarily. A year or two ago seismologists from Northwestern, Purdue, and the University of Missouri suggested that the New Madrid Fault is actually shutting down. Not saying there is anything to worry about, but a year or two ago were there this many quakes happening? I am more amazed at what we don't know, then what we do. Also, my trust in scientists has been shattered by the global warming fear mongering. Any result for grant money, contrary to the facts.
