Robert E.Lee = traitor to the USA! And a patriot of the republic as originally founded. Tell me , why wasn't RE Lee and Jeff Davis tried for treason after the Civil War? Surely they were were traitors of the first degree?

Tell me , why weren't RE Lee and Jeff Davis tried for treason after the Civil War? Surely they were were traitors of the first degree? Good question. Davis was indicted for treason. Eager to argue his case, Davis demanded to be put on trial without delay. But the government botched the case and eventually dropped the charges, and Davis went on to become a celebrity on both sides of the Potomac.
