I heard on the radio that 8 of her captors were killed. In that sense, she certainly did not die in vain.

I understand it was US Special Forces, also from the radio.

The reporter said reports were that she (and the 8 sacks of trash) were killed when one of the sacks of trash threw a grenade in the room where she was being held.

I think that you’re right about that, although it does seem as though they were working in conjunction with the British. Subsequent to my post to you, I read this article-

I feel very bad for her family. She was just trying to do some good, but sometimes and in some places it’s just hard to see how it’s worth it.
