I recall the ROTC Building but I didn’t know about the chant.The combination of the arson and that chant would have made a reasonable Guardsman fearful and,perhaps,a bit jumpy.And that goes for Officer *and* Enlisted.

Was living in Cleveland at the time. Was surprised at how the footage of the final stage of the riots which was shown on the local stations that night was edited on the CBS Evening News. The national feed left a completely different impression of what transpired. It was an early confirmation of just how anti-American CBS News was at the time.
Was with a group of friends earlier that afternoon when word spread of the shootings. Our reaction was “It's about time!” Still feel that way about it.
