'Secretariat' Movie Given Special Push to Faith-Based Filmgoers
Fox News ^ | 10/7/10 | Jo Piazza

Enter Secretariat. The true-life story about a woman horse breeder, played by Diane Lane, who defies the odds to create a Triple Crown winner, has the kind of inspirational story that Disney is banking will appeal to the same faith-based audiences that turned “The Blind Side,” produced by Warner Bros., into a $250 million blockbuster.

Disney has been marketing “Secretariat” to the Bible Belt by organizing special screenings of the film, which hits theaters on Oct. 8, for Christian bloggers, reviewers and influencers, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

They have also produced special marketing materials for the audience. Screening invites sent to non-religious outlets described the film’s story in purely secular terms.

But for the benefit of Christian reviewers, the invitation goes on to add that “The movie is directed by Randall Wallace….Not only is Randall one of the most successful directors of all time, he is also a devout Christian .”

So is Disney pandering to Christians, or is their outreach seen as a positive step by religious audiences?

Or both?

War of words erupts over ‘Secretariat’
Is ‘a work of creepy, half-hilarious’ propaganda, a review says

“Mostly the conversation has raged online between film critic Roger Ebert and Salon reviewer Andrew O’Hehir, but movie-loving bloggers everywhere are weighing in.”

Disney will pander to NORMAL people to fill their coffers.
Times must be tough to Disney since they prefer to make
porn and soft pron movies. Disney is not what it used to be.

I remember when this horse made the news.

We will rent it on Netflix when it is available.

It looks promising. We’ll see ...

“Secretariat’ actually goes much further, presenting a honey-dipped fantasy vision of the American past as the Tea Party would like to imagine it, loaded with uplift and glory and scrubbed clean of multiculturalism and social discord.

In the world of this movie, strong-willed and independent-minded women like Penney Chenery are ladies first (she’s like a classed-up version of Sarah Palin feminism), left-wing activism is an endearing cute phase your kids go through (until they learn the hard truth about inheritance taxes), and all right-thinking Americans are united in their adoration of a Nietzschean Überhorse, a hero so superhuman he isn’t human at all.”

Ebert is suffering from a grave malady and he is very angry at God. Poor man is literally out of his head right now. Pray for him.

Horse-crazy me, who remembers Secretariat, plus horse-crazy DD and her horse-crazy BFF, plan to see it tomorrow.

Secretariat was something so positive in the wake of Vietnam and in the middle of Watergate.

Also looking forward to seeing hilarious ‘70s fashions again.

I guess the gays aren’t bringing in enough money for the Disney coffers.

When you look at the world through the prism of left-wing politics, you get this pseudo-intellectual hash.

I will see it too, but I'm waiting until it gets to a locally owned historic theater near me. They charge $3.

My kids are grown, but I would take children to see it. No sex, no violence, and a great story about a great animal.
