Hmmm..something ain’t right here..Isn’t Coons up by around 15-19 points..why the heck would Obama or Biden need to go up there if Coons has the election in the bag..maybe the polls aren’t what they appear to me and she is closer than we think

My question too? The last poll on Real Clear Politics has Coons ahead +17. That was on a poll ending 10-3-10. Maybe some shift has happened in the last few days. This looks like a wave election and things can shift quick.

Delaware Senate - O’Donnell vs. Coons

Maybe they want to claim that they actually helped for once.

Especially since the polls are showing so many other races on the line.

Is he going to fly AF1 to Wilmington? Barely time for wheels-up. But gotta get more time in his “ride.”

She may be closer than 15-19 points, but this gives ZERO a chance to look like a hero by showing up with a candidate that wins. It's great though that Democrats are being forced to campaign in "gimmee" states like Washington and Connecticut. It means we have the momentum.

I think the answer may be simpler than that.

First, I think the Dems truly believe that Coons is going to beat O'Donnell in a walkover. May not happen, but that IS what they believe right now.

I think that the Dems also believe that they are going to get well and truly shellacked in November. Lose the House, come VERY close to losing the Senate.

Given that, the White House is probably looking past the 2010 elections to how they're going to govern in 2011 and 2012 to win reelection. That means shoring up their base and making sure that whatever is left in the Dem party after this November is marching in lockstep (goosestep?) with them.

Part of that is going to be the ability to make the case to "The Faithful" that the Dems who lost in 2010 did so because they DIDN'T fully embrace the President.

So what they're going to do is put Obama and Biden out into what they feel are the safe contests, so they can claim on the day after the election that wherever Obama/Biden went, the Dems won and won big.

BS of course. At least to any reasoning, rational person. Which the hard core Left and Obamanistas aren't. Lets assume that the recent polls out of Delaware are indeed accurate ... I'm willing to bet that the White House would be willing to do things that would cut Coon's projected margin of victory in HALF to be able to allow Gibbs to get on TV the morning after the election and claim responsibility for the victory.

Not only, allegedly, is Coons way up in the polls, what puzzles me is ...Why Obama?

BIDEN...he’s the guy that should be coming to Delaware. Biden is Delaware’s native son....Obama?

That’s strange.

Obama lives to campaign. He is going to Delaware because his handlers think he can’t lose Delaware by going there. But his handlers could be wrong.

The Dems really need this win because:

1. Obama screwed the pooch when his WH leaked the Hillary for VP story. Now they owe Biden a favor so they have to keep his seat warm for lil' Biden.

2. If O'Donnell wins, she will be seated immediately as a replacement for Biden. Along with WV and Illinois, and some other replacement senators, she could be a firewall against a Dem lame duck session.

Obama can claim that Coons won because he campaigned for him. That’s my take.
