Tea-party activists, keen to build on their success toppling GOP incumbents in primaries this year, are already targeting more Republican veterans in the 2012 election. GOP senators like Bob Corker, above, have drawn criticism from tea-party activists for some of the positions they have taken over the years. Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine, one of the most liberal Republicans in Congress, already has a conservative GOP primary opponent. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R., Utah), Sen. Bob Corker (R., Tenn.) and Sen. Richard Lugar (R., Indiana) have all drawn fire from the right wing of their party. Tea-party activists have put these and other incumbents on notice that the anti-establishment sentiment defining this year's politics will not end on Election Day 2010. It is too early to say if these incumbents will face serious peril when they are up for re-election in 2012, but they are already taking steps to burnish their conservative credentials. "The tea party is right," said Ms. Snowe, who is campaigning for a tea-party-backed gubernatorial candidate in Maine this fall. "We've lost our way on fiscal issues." The threat of a primary challenge may put more pressure on Republicans to steer clear of compromise with Democrats when Congress reconvenes. When the Senate recently voted on small-business tax breaks, the bill drew support from only two Republicansboth of whom are leaving office at the end of this term. Centrist efforts to compromise on an extension of expiring Bush-era tax cuts fizzled. Even Ms. Snowe, a perennial swing vote on taxes, resisted agreement with Democrats on the issue. Tea-party challenges to GOP establishment candidates in this year's primaries showed how committed conservative activists are to changing the party from within.

Lugar, Hatch, Corker, Snowe, and McCain..what motivates them..easy..if not this time, then definitely in 2012, the GOP will ahve the majority in the Senate, and they want a last fling as chair..and since they won’t run again after this time..they are virtually unaccountable...we have no leverage on them..
2014.
I’d like to bounce both the bimbos in Maine.
Too right - Orin Hatch must be feeling his consertive Viagra as he pulls at his fantastic crisp shirt with the perfect tie and the Teddy Kennedy lapel pin.
That’s ok; they’re on notice. Get a good liberty-loving person to announce in mid-2011 (in Indiana) and Lugar will decide to retire. We won’t be so lucky in TN.
If they screw this up again, it’s third party time.
Plank #1: TERM LIMITS
That’s what happens to people who live in Washington too long. TERM LIMITS!!!!!!
This thing stays long alive after Nov.3rd. It simply has to. The enemy (Lib Dems and RINOS) are going to redouble their efforts following their rout by conservatives. Bet on it. We better be ready for the next boxing jab.
Supporting an alternative candidate in a primary is an “ambush” now??
wow
Ambush? If they don’t perform, they’re gone. It’s that simple. Just because some have had a free ride for so long doesn’t make this an ambush.
Has anyone been burning rhinos in effigy as a warning as part of the tea party events?
That would be a powerful symbolic gesture.
There won’t be as many around; either they’ll leave the party, or will retire, or will just read the wall. Thanks SharpRightTurn.
I can see why the fabian socialists would use an emblem of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. They’ve played us for decades as dumb sheep.
If the GOP candidates doesn’t represent America and our concerns they deserve to go. Our political system has been hijacked for too long.
Somehow I don’t see Brown being a target...
I hope they barbecue John Cornyn.
Don't shoot, let them burn
Zero tolerance for marxists in US government should be the policy.
Investigate and arrest members of the “Progressive Congressional Caucus”, send those red sons of bitches back underground.
All States right to work states, no forced union dues in order to work, defund the marxist trade and government worker unions, no one will pay union dues voluntarily.
