Agreed, it is absolutely not right to beat a woman but the issue is whether it is allowed under Sharia. The question is not answered. The fact of the matter, fact is something to which the discussion did not get very much, is that the Qur'an allows for a husband to beat his wife in Surah 4, for details see the following:
