This is just another example of how alienated the Salt Lake Tribune has become with its readers. Nowhere has this “journalist” pointed to recent polls that cite the 70 percent who support Arizona’s S.B. 1070. Aren't they important to be included in the debate?

But let’s discuss a poll that David Montero doesn’t want you to know about.

“Gallup reports that 57 percent of those polled for their annual Governance poll, conducted Sept. 13-16, 2010, said their “confidence and trust” in mass media – newspapers, television, and radio – was “not very much/none at all.” This is one percentage point higher than the record set in 2008.”

A poll released Tuesday suggests outrage over Arizona-style immigration bills — including one authored by Rep. Stephen Sandstrom, R-Orem — is sowing discontent among Latinos toward the Republican Party.

I say BS!

Every Latino I know that has gone through the process of becoming an American citizen, doesn't think we should rubber stamp illegals into our country.

i’d like to know exactly what kind of concern they want republicans to show.
if its that they feel that republicans aren’t protecting them from the influx of illegals that create a strereotype that lumps the legal immigrants in with them and gives them a bad reputation.. i’d agree with them.

I don’t have much use for folks who maintain their hyphen. You’re either an American or you are not an American; one or the other.

I want illegals to absolutely hate it here. Then go back and tell their family and friends.

Of course they are. We all know the majority of latinos and blacks preach for equality, while at the same time wanting special privileges. Nothing new.

BS. Latinos who are citizens generally support the Arizona Bill, because they realize it isn’t right that they had to go through all the effort to become citizens, while illegals wind up getting all the same benefits without lifting a finger.

Well, of course a poll of illegals is going to show frustration with the whole country not embracing them with open arms. But ask the LEGAL immigrants how they feel about things like amnesty. You’ll get a much more conservative viewpoint.

My wife and her side of the family are all Hispanic and US Citizens and they love what Arizona did. They were once Democrats, but now despise the Democrat party.

I think this poll doesn’t go far enough so that it draws an incomplete conclusion (on purpose, perhaps).

How do non-Latinos feel on the same subject? I’m not Latino, just a pasty middle-aged woman, and I don’t think the Republican Party gives a flyin’ flip about me either. And I’ll bet that a lot of conservatives, no matter their ethnic background or gender feel the same way. We all feel like we’ve been taken for granted, with the “powers that be” only looking out for themselves and not listening to us.

The Tea Party is finally forcing them to take notice, and I wonder if they are just going through the motions, pretending to care about what we believe are the critical issues, to save their own hides.

So yeah, Latinos probably do feel this way, but it isn’t just a Latino thing, it’s the way that a lot of other people feel as well.

LOL

What percentage of Latinos in UT are even legal?

That few? Wow, am I ever surprised.

All persons of “Mexican” descent who are in the U.S. legally should speak out against the lawless, identity thieving, job thieving America haters who come here to exploit us all.

Mexicans can be so proud of their heritage, but they must be American first and support those candidates who support the rule of law. Otherwise, they are not true Americans.

Politicians should not be afraid of the
Hispanic vote. They should be principled and if this country falls to illegals, at least they went down with dignity and integrity.
