"I won't get too political tonight, but I just can't help it sometimes," a smiling Sarah Palin told a Houston audience Tuesday night, shortly before lighting into what she called "the mother of all unfunded mandates called Obamacare" and "the most pro-abortion president ever to occupy the White House."
Speaking for nearly 50 minutes to an audience of over 1,200 people at Houston's First Baptist Church, Palin shared what she called "a little bit of my testimony" about being the mother of a child born with Down syndrome.
She spoke about her daughter Bristol's experience as a single mother at 17.
The event was a fundraiser for Austin-based Heroic Media, a nonprofit advertising group that develops mass-media campaigns aimed at persuading women not to have abortions. The group was founded in 2004 by retired businessman Brian Follett, who originally named it after St. Gerard Majella, patron saint of pregnant women.
"Understand that Obamcare violates a lot of things like the commerce clause in our Constitution and the will of the people," Palin said. "And it violates our conscience when it comes to funding abortion."
She noted that on the day President Barack Obama signed health care reform legislation, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott "stood up on behalf of your entire state and he joined a lawsuit that challenges the constitutionality of that legislation.
A more polished public speaker than she was on the campaign trail two years ago, her trademark Minnesota-sounding accent less pronounced, Palin held her audience rapt as she told of discovering she was pregnant at age 43 "I was no spring chicken" and then finding out 12 weeks later that her son had Down syndrome.

Been to this church a few times. I really like it but it’s too far from my home. I was going to attend this event but it slipped up on me.
Being Sarah Palin: you get pawed by state senators from coast to coast.
Yeah, there’s some body language in that picture.
My first thought exactly.
I read the speech on a different blog and Sarah was on fire.
The left will continue to pummel her, and she gets stronger and stronger.
Go Sarah.
The comments in response to the article confirms what we locals know about the political climate and current population in Houston. Houston is now home to the largest abortion clinic in the United States, current Mayor is gay, the corrupt former Mayor is now running for Governor and it is one of at least four major sanctuary cities in the state. It’s why I moved to the suburbs.
Oh No! He's not going in for tongue, is he? I see Sarah pulling back
Yep me too, noted right away her stance...leaning back definately and needful as men seem to think they can zero in like that just because of who they are. Ben there done that. It’s uncomfortable to say the least and no wonder Sarah leaned back...it does send the right signal.
