Menendez eyes lame-duck session for immigration
Politico ^ | October 4, 2010

Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) said Sunday that he introduced an immigration bill just before Congress’ midterm elections break so he could get “lame-duck movement” on the legislation after Nov. 2.

“A lot of senators are retiring and might be willing to look at the issue,” Menendez said...“We need something to jump off from if we’re going to go into it in the early part of the next Congress.”

He said his bill has Republican proposals in it to entice GOP senators...But Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas)...suggested that GOP support will be difficult to get.

“I hope to work with Sen. Menendez on immigration reform, but it’s much too important to be treated as a political football or to try to jam through during a lame duck session,” Cornyn said.

Menendez is a snake in the grass. First appointed by that crook Corzine; several conflict of interest situations; citizens' efforts to recall him stymied by NJ Dim officials; UP FOR RE-ELECTION IN 2012. Maybe if the people of New Jersey have a different experience being governed by Christie, there is a chance to get rid of this crooked demagogue.

And where does he think those “retiring” senators are going to live after they push something like that through a lame duck session? They certainly won’t be welcome at home, and I’m sure that any other state will not want them moving to their state. Of course they could always move to Cuba or Venezuela, but perhaps they should check out living conditions (and life expectation) in those communist countries first.

Remember, the GOP establishment wants this also.

My guess is there will be enough lame-duck GOP senators that go along with this that there won’t be a filibuster in the senate.

The lame-duckers (on both sides) are looking for their next meal ticket. If this is the cost of the ticket, they’ll pay it.

It will pass.

Yeah?
How much you wanna bet on that one?
Thanks to clowns like Lisa Murkowski losing in the primaries (which sends a warning to vermin like Lindsay Graham and them two female RINO's from the north east), and a lot of Democrats being on track to lose their seats because they voted for 0bozo/Pelosi/Reid's Marxist agenda, I'll be suprised if such a bill even passes in the House, let alone the US Senate.

This bill is worse than it appears.

Immigration Bill in Senate Would Allow U.S. Citizens to Sponsor Same-sex Partners

Of course. Every Liberal hobby horse has been larded on there, I am sure. Probably includes a provision guaranteeing amnestied female illegals the right to a free abortion, too.

I hope you’re right, but I doubt it.

The Democrats that survive will probably feel emboldened since they can officialy believe they are untouchable.

The Democrats that got defeated have nothing to lose, so they are going to cast their vote whichever way gurantees their next lobbying job.

That should give the Dems enough votes in a lame duck house to pass the bill.

The situation will be the same in the senate. All the Dems need to do is pull over enough GOP votes in the senate to prevent a filibuster. Yea, the Maine RINOs might be scared, but how do you think the ousted GOP senators from Utah, Alaska, etc... will vote? Just like the ousted Dems, whichever way gets them that lucrative lobbying job in Jan of next year.

IMHO, the GOP leadership is still in denial about the Tea Party movement. They either think it will fade away or you’ve got people like Trent Lott running around saying they can “co-opt” the tea party movement and fold it into the GOP. I don’t think the current GOP leadership will fight this tooth and nail.

They would have to have a cloture vote on this, and I doubt it would be invoked. Plus: The House.

In the US Senate, the Democrats wouldn't have survived. They'd merely not have been up for re-election this yar. Afater seeing their colleagues like Blanche Lincoln and quite likely Patty Murray lose teir seats, plus losing Democratic seats like Indiana, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Colorado etc, they will know that come two year's time, if they dare vote for any kind of amnesty, they'll get slaughtered when its their own turn for re-election.

You may want to read a piece from the Wall street Journal from last week. A lot of Democratic congressmen that voted with Pelosi/0bama/Reid in even some fairly strong Democratic districts, are behind in the polls. The ones that voted against 0bamacare/bailout etc are doing very well thank you. It only takes two year for House memebers to come up for reelection. After the massacre they experience this November, wild horses wouldn't get them to vote for loony left 0bamabot policies.

IMHO, the GOP leadership is still in denial about the Tea Party movement

Wrong again!.
Article in WSJ last week. The GOP leadership in the House (Eric Cantor etc), are fully aware they have benefited from the energy of the Tea Parties, not from anything much that they did themselves.

The problem with this logic is this:

If the dems give millions of illegals the right to vote...then they WON’T lose the election in two years.

They won't.
We've been hearing about how all these millions of Mexican illegals are going to get get the vote and install a permanent Democratic majority, from as far back as when Bush was in power, and Ted "The Swimmer" and his pal Juan McCain, and the entire Bush administration tried to push this abomination down our throats. They got exactly nowhere. Heck even Democrats like Virgina Senator Jim Webb voted against it. He doesn't want our electoral system controlled by a bunch of America-hating Mexicans as much as anyone else.

And Obamacare was NEVER going to pass...heck, even democrats opposed it.

Ummm...In case you forgot, amnesty NEVER passed, despite massive support for amnesty by Bush and BOTH GOP and Dem Senators. Meanwhile, forcing through 0bamacare is the # 1 reason why the Democrats are set to get slaughtered in November.

This is why the O’Donnell Delaware race is so important — She would be serving Biden’s unexpired term and be seated immediately, where she could be the crucial vote to block the Dem agenda.

Ummmm...in case you forgot, 74% opposed the Stimulus and they passed it anyway....Ummmm, in case you forgot, a large majority opposed Obamacare, and they passed it anyway.

Now the democrats are going to LOSE in November, but they see a way to GET BACK into power..They do NOT care about how mad people are...they care ONLY about power...they do not care that they will lose in November...they care ONLY about power.

They WILL try to push thru amnesty in the lame duck Congress because they understand it is the ONLY way they will get back POWER.

My hope is that the Supreme Court will kill it, if they do pass it.

Keep in mind that Weather Underground member William Ayers has no problems living in an upscale Chicago neighborhood.
