Avoid These Office Buzzwords

Last year about this time, I posted a list (plus definitions and correct usage) of the office cliches least loved by a random sampling of executives polled by Accountemps. You may — like me — be too snobby and old-fashioned to want to sling the lingo, but you've got to know it or run the risk that your peers and superiors deem you hopelessly out of the loop. (Oops, there's a tired office phrase if there ever was one!) That's why I have made it my personal mission to keep you up to date.

I figured for sure the guy was a closet case. /s

The best way to find out for sure is to secretly video record him during a romantic interlude and then put it up on the web. I'll be awaiting a tweet when you get it done.

All the cool people are doing it these days.

I left the corporate world about ten years ago. I used to be a senior level executive in a pretty decent sized bank. Being in charge of a high tech aspect of the bank, I was inundated with jargon from the banking world, the HR world, and the tech world.

It was all BS used to cover folks’ asses.

The other day, in my new job, some 25 year old minor department head of an organization I was doing some work for, started in with his jargon. They were going to do this or do that...yadda, yadda, yadda. I literally laughed out loud.

I dont miss that crap at all....

” I’d rather hear fingernails on a chalkboard. ;-) “

But would you settle for Power fingernails on a Power chalkboard ? :)

Excuse me - I may have to punch myself in the face for that.

"The Company has exhibited leadership by enhancing the facilitation of synergistic, scalable core-competancy paradigm-shifts vis-a-vis the most granular service point of difference, empowering the ongoing assurance of the product architecture being functionally equivalent and parallel to the longitudinal business-practice shift postulated by the use of mission-critical management dialog technology on a go-forward basis, in accordance with ISO-9001:2008 standards."

What a minute, I worked for that company before they filed chapter 11!

I work with the military. Here's how we talk:

"Can we do a PPA for the JSWG so we'll be ready for the IPR? The BCAT won't brief, so the SG is going to. That CCR is due the first of every month - late submittal is UNSAT. Hey, look....it's time to go to the DFAC and then we can stop at the MWR. Did you need to go to the TMC before the BMOPT tomorrow?"

A teacher friend told me her school text books refer to all bosses as “she.”

Isn’t that disgusting?

We’re seeing traditional western civilization turned on its head...

Thanks,
