Angle: “I’m not sure I can win” if Ashjian’s in, nat’l GOPers “have lost their principles,”
The Las Vegas Sun ^ | Sunday, October 3, 2010 | Jon Ralston

Posted on 10/03/2010 7:58:09 PM PDT by kristinn

That’s just some of what GOP Senate nominee Sharron Angle said during a meeting Wednesday evening with Tea Party of Nevada candidate Scott Ashjian and Tea Party of Nevada Chairman Sid James at the home of Richard Ziser, who lost to Harry Reid in 1994 and now is an adviser to the Angle campaign and also participated in the conversation.

A tape of the 38-minute meeting that I have obtained provides a rare window into the kinds of discussions that take place during campaigns behind closed doors, redolent of the authenticity that disappears in public or in TV ads.

The conversation reveals Angle almost desperate to show Ashjian they are like-minded, that they both disdain the major parties, but insistent that the Tea Party of Nevada contender could help Reid win if he doesn’t embrace her candidacy. Ashjian emphasizes he believes a third party is the only way and that he believes he can garner a fifth of the vote, which seems fantastically optimistic, to put it mildly.

Angle expresses disdain for the national GOP, which she says she now has “in a box” because she won the primary, which caused the DC types after her June 8 victory to still be “moaning and groaning and weeping and gnashing teeth over Sue Lowden.” Later, she tries to persuade Ashjian to endorse her because she will have “juice” he can tap into to get access to Sens. Jim DeMint, Tom Coburn and Mitch McConnell.

I can just hear it now: The woman who calls the majority leader “Let’s Make a Deal Harry Reid” becomes “Let’s Make a Deal Sharron Angle”

At the meeting’s outset, Ashjian seems open to a deal, suggesting if he can get an apology from the Tea Party Express, “we can get on board.”

Someone asked on another thread who the Sun is endorsing. I guess we know now.

Tea Party Express won’t do anything to help.
They seem to want Democrats to keep their power, by endorsing Walt Minnick (D-ID).

I don’t know exactly what’s going on here, but I think I have read in the past that the so-called Tea Party in Nevada was taken over by none other than Harry Reid.

If so, then it’s no wonder if they played games with Sharron Angle, taped her responses, and then turned them over to a liberal propagandist.

Maybe they lured her in with hints that they might drop out—without, of course, having any such intention.

Reid is as crooked as they come.

I don’t think this is the Tea Party Express. The newspaper reporter calls it the Tea Party of Nevada. I think that’s a false-front organization sponsored by Harry Reid. See my earlier reply.

Some mole from the Tweedledee Party or the Tweedledum Party.

Making sure that the status q1uo persists until the nation buckles under these twin burdens.

It’s politics. It’s supposed to be crooked.

So, she’s not allowed to have a conversation about this because she’s against ‘backroom deals’? Seems pretty flimsy to me.

What is evident in this tape is that Sharon Angle is the real deal. She is exactly who she says she is and she’s going to Washington to shake things up. That’s what I got out of it anyway.

What exactly is the big deal here that everyone’s supposed to be so upset about?

I’m not in Nevada, but if I were, this tape would make me MORE excited to vote for Sharon Angle, not less.

The chances for any third party are extremely remote, due to the winner-take-all voting system. That's a mathematical fact.

The one case in US history where a third party replaced one of the two major parties only occurred because of the intensity of the debate over slavery, and because neither the Whigs nor the Democrats offered the abolitionists an acceptable platform. The Tea Party may be an expression of a movement as strong and consequential as was abolition in the middle of the 19th century—but if so, it needs more time to mature, organize and unify before it would have any realistic chance of doing to the Republicans (or to the Democrats?) what the Republicans did to the Whigs in 1860. Not there yet.

I agree with you. If Sharon plays it right, it can work to her favor. It shows her to be both sincere — and a tough politician, which Nev is going to need in DC after the shake-up occurs. Good for her!

I don’t think Harry realizes his dirty tricks won’t help. No one likes the little puke.

I cannot link to the source.. we all could get sued. I dare not even think about the source, neither should you.

But I do remember the editor of a certain new.. er, I mean, publication telling of a speech Harry Reid made in Nevada.

Reid hoped that that publication will continue to be selling ads and earning income because it enables the Las Vegas Sun to be distributed.

I think it is safe to suggest that the Sun is a Reid newspaper.

Who taped this and why?

My best guess is that Ashjian, the faux tea party candidate, taped it then leaked it to the reporter. Whether he acted at the behest of Reid, who knows. I dont believe anything Ashjian says.

LV Sun is a REID PR front run owned by the Lib Mormons.

This phony tea party and the Reid fall guy are frauds.

This story smells like a heavily edited scam by the LVS which is just desperate over Reid losing.
