Legendary author and reporter Bob Woodward indicated that former JCS Chairman and Secretary of State Colin Powell might get the nod to replace Robert Gates as Secretary of Defense when Gates leaves in 2011.
Ive heard suggestions that [President Obama] might lean on Colin Powell, Woodward said to Military.com during an exclusive interview behind the release of Obamas Wars, his latest book. Obama needs some good news in this war, he added with the notion that persuading Powell to take the job would certainly be a good move in the eyes of most of the American public. Woodward also pointed out that the Powell Doctrine deals with the use of overwhelming force, which could mean Powells instincts might be to ask for even more troops in order to end the war faster and more definitively.
Obamas Wars is Woodwards latest look at the innermost workings in and around Washingtons halls of power, and the book gives some of the most detailed behind-the-scenes glimpses of the Obama White House to date.

“No it would not be, probably be a disaster IMHO but since when has that ever been a deterrent to Obama?”
With Stroker, the pattern is that if it’s harmful to the country, he’ll run with it. SecDef Powell would be as huge a disaster as Robert McNamara in my humble but honest opinion.
Thus, he’ll do it.
He’s got to energize his base, too.
“*sigh*”
Dittos.
I was thinking the same thing, Clark is just the kind of a$$hole Obama would love to have there.
I would have thought of him as a good choice, experienced as he is, but since the Scooter Libby episode where he and Armitage lent themselves to Fitzgerald’s game (and let an innocent man take the fall knowingly) I’ve lost what respect I still had for him. The Libby episode was a character test that he and Armitage failed. At least Armitage spoke out in the end, after it was too late to help Libby. Powell never did.
For the best description yet of Colon Bowel, see the excellent post at #10.

Well said and exactly right. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Powell is a man without honor.
