Does its discovery and the resulting patches mean it is no longer a threat?

Was it discovered before it could do any harm other than the cost to remove it or install the patches to make it inactive?

Being discoverd only unleashed more problems as it is a self morphing variety in that it detects detection and spawns more worms branching out in the network architecture faster than detection can trace. It only affects two models of PLC’s made by Siemens so it is not a threat to normal PC users. PLC’s for those who dont know are Programmable Logic Controllers or little computerswitching devices connected to PC’s to control processing plant equipment, sensors, motors and any other devices used to automate production line types of equipment.

The latest technology is eclipsing normal PLC’s by using distributive soft control directly from PC’s over a buss type control network taking most of the switching and control away from large motor control center systems out to smaller and localized motor control cabinet at each motor or control device. No silver bullet for protection but actually it opens the door for more intrusion because of the holes in poerating system architecture with the PC being the heart.

You're not thinking multidimensional on this. What if the attack was designed not to do actual harm, but rather to force implementation of those patches. Patches that could contain backdoors that can be exploited as part of an all out cyberattack?

More than any other European country, Germany has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel. Siemens is a German company ... Anyone remember how, during Desert Shield, there was all this concern about the German-built installations in Iraq? Up until the point where it was revealed that the German companies that built them had turned the plans over to the Coalition
