The American Future Fund is spending more than half a million dollars to try to oust Colorado Democratic Rep. Ed Perlmutter, a huge sum in a district less competitive than others where the group is playing.
The $560,000 is for both an ad buy and a field campaign the only district where AFF is funding a grassroots component, AFF founder Nick Ryan told POLITICO.
Perlmutter is facing Navy veteran Ryan Frazier, a Republican with considerable support from the national party. The 7th District is outside Denver and favors the Democrats voters picked President Obama in the 2008 election 59 percent to 40 percent. Two other Colorado districts are considered more competitive: the sprawling 4th District, where freshman Rep. Betsy Markey is running against Republican Cory Gardner, and the 3rd District, where Rep. John Salazar is running against GOPer Scott Tipton.
