I have friends that have been going thought a very hard time the past 5 or so years, and no they dont have to use stamps but they just dont budget well, both my wife and I have told them how but.....
My husband had an accident last week that cost him the 1st joint of one index finger, part of the 1st joint of his middle finger and a laceration to the bone on his ring finger. He is a medical massage therapist and will be out of work 6-8 weeks.
We aren’t rich, but we save compulsively. We are preppers, so our freezers and closets are full. He has insurance with about a $2800 deductible. We never even went through the stages of grief. We went into git-’er-done mode and then to planning the next 2 months and have been in acceptance mode for the past week.
Yesterday, I was speaking with someone about hiring her college age, but experienced, son to finish the roofing DH will not be able to complete by winter. They are having hard times and are on food stamps, although her husband has some work, just not enough.
She began to tell me what agencies to contact. I told her we could pay our own way and had cash assets. She said, sounding disappointed in me, “Are your assets somewhere easily checked?” “Yes, in bank accounts.” She said:”Well, it is good you have cash.” in a sort of doubtful manner.
Made me wonder how many folks on assistance have cash in fruit jars out back.
We would never even go for free food as long as we could manage on our own. I suppose we are old fashioned.
as difficult as it was, I am not sure shame is so bad.
There is an entitlement mentality out there that will be more pronounced as the leftists get hold of more and more of our incomes.
You are right.
I see seniors almost giddily rushing off for their *free checkup*, convinced they are getting something for nothing. Later on, they will find that they have been denied real care if they are seriously ill, on the grounds of age and usefulness to society as a whole.
People I know in (I assume) real need, tell me that their food stamp benefit buys a LOT of food and presumably, this will make up for their BMI being recorded and likely used later on to deny them a joint replacement or other medical procedure unless they bring their weight down to government approved levels that, AFAIK, are nearly skeletal.
Those reverse mortgages include that the government gets 50% of any appreciation when the house is finally sold.
Every farmer knows the government attitude towards those who ever participated in any tax-reduction program. “You took the money. Now comply or be fined.”
Sooner or later, people will get a clue that TANSTAAFL.
I have nothing against safety nets. But we have decided that we will not participate in anything the government offers. We are old enough that death has lost a lot of its fearfulness and we would rather be free. It would be a lot harder if we were younger and still had children at home and I won’t condemn those who feel morally compelled to accept government help. We’ll let them have our share.
Then at midnight, when their fellow citizens replenish their electronic-benefit accounts...
There. Fixed it.
It’s been called “Welfare Check Weekend” for decades.
The first weekend of the month is party-time in the Democrat-Run zones. Liquor stores, hookers, bars, drug-dealers, etc all make a killing on your tax money.
The economy in many Democrat cities has become COMPLETELY dependent on welfare and drug money (paid for by welfare money) to keep them afloat.
This is a dirty little well-known secret you won’t be seeing covered on 60 Minutes
Food stamp recipients have gone from 25 to 42 mil in the Baraqqi Depression.
A huge win for Dems, that’s another 17 million guaranteed voters.
“Then at midnight, when their fellow citizens replenish their electronic-benefit accounts...”
yep...it’s wealth re-distribution night.
