While I have the utmost respect for Dr. Dobson, I have to disagree. We must NEVER settle. We take a reversal of Roe and then continue the push for a pro-life Amendment.

“I just don’t see the Supreme Court saying this is flat-out illegal,” he lamented. “I wish they would, but I don’t think that will happen.”

There is nothing in the US constitution about abortion. Absent a new constitutional amendment, it is a matter for the 50 states to decide.

The U.S. Constitution says that “no person shall be deprived of life without due process.” Twice. In other words, a fair trial on a capital offense. Scientifically, there is no longer any doubt that from the moment of creation, from fertilization, a new individual human person exists.

Every officer of government, at every level, in every branch, swears before God to uphold that protection of the unalienable right to life.

All we need are officers of government that will keep their oath. Period.

“James Dobson: Pro-Life Cause May Have to Settle for Overturning Roe, Abortion”

That would be a start. From there you fight the issue in the individual state legislatures. The states. Where it should have stayed to begin with.

Why do we need a constitutional amendment? Whatever happened to “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?” I’m quite sure they meant the unborn as well when they wrote that.

I would be willing to settle for each state making a decision, and we'll fight that out in the state legislatures in 50 states. I just don't see the Supreme Court saying this is flat-out illegal," he lamented. "I wish they would, but I don't think that will happen."

That would pretty much end the Democrat party as we know it.

Conservatives would be mobilized at an intense level within each state, and would come to absolutely dominate many of them, it would also cause state conservatives to have to start meeting with Hispanics and blacks, and get them to get off the fence on abortion.

A new level of deep, and persistent conservatism would permeate every single, congressional district. A few years of that would put us in a position to pass an amendment.

Satan has his foot firmly in the door to the murder of innocent wee ones not yet born into the world. Add Death with Dignity to that, and Euthanasia cannot be far behind! The reversal of Roe vs Wade should be the centerpiece of the GOP’s new Contract with America. Woe be to all those who withdrew it from the last one!

Christ can take care of this in a baby-heartbeat. Although I like Dobson, I prefer Fr. John A. Hardon:
"Let me repeat in the clearest words in my disposal. I would restate our thesis in two propositions. Proposition #1 There is no stopping abortion without an ocean of grace from Jesus Christ. No way will human means stop abortion." #2 The principle source of this grace is the Holy Eucharist.

Link.

The more I look at this article the angrier I get.

"I would be willing to settle for each state making a decision, and we'll fight that out in the state legislatures in 50 states. I just don't see the Supreme Court saying this is flat-out illegal," he lamented. "I wish they would, but I don't think that will happen."

Jim Dobson's final surrender of unalienable right.

I agree with Dobson. Overturn Roe v. Wade and then outlaw abortion state-by-state. This allows the GOP to take a big-tent approach with limited-government principles front-and-center. Once abortion is illegal in a majority of the States, then we can start talking realistically about a pro-life amendment. Step one is to rein in the judiciary. This will benefit freedom and life across the board, and will create a conservative-libertarian fusion majority.

The XIVth Amendment already guarantees all persons in the US the right to life.

What we need is an executive that actually decides to enforce the provisions of the Constitution.

There are two issues here that almost everyone runs together:

1) The USSC has no power such as that claimed by them in Roe v. Wade. Any court with that power has no limit on its power.

2) Abortion is wrong and should be outlawed.

Progress on #1 is more possible than progress on #2.

Dr. Dobson is a RINO. He, and all of those to the left of him, must be purged, I tell you. We need ideological purity. That is clearly the path to majority party status.

Or not.

Do the Marxists ever settle? Answer: NO!

The Marxists push for what ever they can get and then push some more. We should do the same.

As a Constitutionalist (read: Non-Sharia Law) ... Abortion is properly settled on a state-by-state basis ...

Agree. Question for Dr. Dobson: Did Jesus "settle?"

Exactly, the left never settle, the take what they can get, then they push for more.

Of course we’ll take reversing Roe, but then we go for the next step.

I think that Dobson is getting older, and he probably was speaking of his lifetime. I realize that's it's unwise to speak only from one's own perspective, but I've listened to him on the radio before, and he has a conversational approach that lends itself to that.

from the article: "The election of President Barack Obama set back the pro-life cause because it allowed him to replace retiring pro-abortion jurists, John Paul Stevens and Sandra Day O'Connor, with abortion advocates who will almost assuredly vote to keep Roe and unlimited abortions in place for decades to come."

The above is the reason that the divided conservative community was so misguided when we allowed moderate John McCain to sneak into the nomination at the last election. His non-campaign, unwillingness to engage Obama, inability to engage Obama, and the terrible backstabbing against his VP running mate have all resulted in decades of hard work going to waste.

Conservatism was on the brink of replacing Scotus justices from the liberal side with those who were more constitutional in their approach.

And we failed. Whether manipulated or finessed really isn't significant. We were so close, and we let it slip away.

I hope he misspoke and I wish he would not use the word “settle”. Of course America cannot count itself free and civilized until such day that every abortion is against the law in every jurisdiction, just like any other murder.

That some steps out of barbarity are easier to take is something hard to dispute. But I am not even convinced that overturning Row v. Wade will be chronologically the first victory. It is possible that the culture of death will be defeated without regard to what is legal. When a legal system is discredited in the minds of most citizens, — and the juridical agenda of the left will discredit whatever remains of our legal system, — people simply do what is right and try not to get caught. One day people who do or advocate for abortion will be social pariahs, no matter how many laws are written to protect them.
