Did it have anything to do with a powdered mixture of saltpeter, sulfur, and charcoal?

Those were actual ingredients in this set and the instructions for a 'gunpowder experiment' were included. I was about 9 I think and I was making gunpowder in my basement.

My mom about dropped stainless steel twinkies when she found me. But that isn't what got it taken away. If I remember correctly it had something to do with carbon tetrachloride....

I used to take the lid off the bottle of Carbon Tet my dad had, and sniff it. It made everything go black for a while.

Used to buy that at the chemist's apothecary's drug store and/or hardware store, along with other essential---ugh, cleaning supplies.

Though, even when I was a freshman in high school in 1960, my dad had to buy me the pint of fuming nitric acid I needed....
