Disney backs Michelle Obama's child obesity campaign

The Walt Disney Company on Thursday threw its weight behind a campaign championed by US First Lady Michelle Obama to push back child obesity.

The "Magic of Healthy Living" campaign will feature public service announcements by Michelle Obama, teen idol Nick Jonas, TV star Brenda Song and other celebrities, all seeking "to inspire kids" to lead healthy lives and help their parents to instill good habits in them, Disney said in a statement.

As part of the campaign, Disney will make a one million dollar grant to help build play spaces and gardens in 10 underserved communities nationwide.

..."We are very proud to take the next step in our long-term commitment to helping families achieve healthier lifestyles, and are especially gratified to work with the first lady on the 'Let?s Move' campaign," said Disney president and CEO Bob Iger.

We ate lots of sugar as kids and didn't have obesity, but then we played our butts off outdoors until after dark.

True, kids in the old days went out to play much more than now.

I think Michelle said something about dangerous city neighborhoods discouraging outdoor play by kids, if I heard correctly? Sad to say, that’s due to the “ghetto” culture of so many cities, making responsible parents there afraid of letting their kids out of the house at all.

She’s just doing it with Disney so she can go there on their next vacation.

Yet one more reason for this family with school-aged children to avoid Disney at every opportunity.

It’s sad and so typical of liberals. They have to take fun things and turn them into “serious causes.”

Yeah, and Disney is supporting wearing the Muslim headgear for women, and Disney supports the gay community ... and Disney supports Obama ....

I just canceled a trip there, planned for November ... they asked for a reason, I told them why. The lady actually then said, "you know we record these" and I said, "I'd be disappointed if you didn't!"

Alternative Destination? Arizona, and looking forward to it.

If Disney cared so much about what people eat, they’d have decent food at their theme parks. The crap they serve, besides being stale, unhealthy, and cheap, although they sell it for prices that are atrociously high, I wouldn’t feed to Obama’s dog Bo (or anyone’s dog for that matter).

My kids eat almost everything that doesn’t eat them first, but prefer lots of salt and sugar. I taught them well :-)

They all run and play and there’s always a round-up for meals and bedtime.

That said, two out of three are skinny to average but one is “husky.” Funny thing, he is probably the most active of all of them.

Has anyone ever seen a photo of this horrible woman or her creepy husband putting a forkful of salad or a spear of broccoli into their mouths? All I ever see are burgers, dogs, fries, pizza and ice cream going down their gullets. Maybe she should figure out how hubby eats likes this and looks like a skeleton and get the kids on that program.

It’s sad that Walt’s creation has been hacked away by Democrat supporting hack executives. I don’t recall any good Disney pictures since Lady & the Tramp, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse etc.

Disney lost their appeal for us a long time ago when they got rid of just about everything Americana. We use to love to go into the Horseshoe Review where they would have a “Wild West” Show. We use to sit and watch the show while drinking our root beer float. It was a lot of fun.

Well, they got rid of that replacing it with character signings. They cheapen their parks with blatent advertisements about their products, shows and ABC. At MGM they had a book store devoted to Ellen Degeneres (even though I never saw anyone in there).

It’s no long fun and appealing as it once was. It is an American icon swallowed up by globalization and everything that was nobel and good about America that Disney once portrayed (e.g. Fest Parker with his coon skin cap, Ed McMurray and his inventions) is gone. It’s just another cheap thrill with no substance.

Wow, I’m glad we got to enjoy it when it was still a great place. I liked Frontierland the best, I think.
