Hartzler responds to Skelton TV ads
Pulaski County Daily News ^ | 9/11/2010 | Darrell Todd Maurina

PULASKI COUNTY, Mo. (Sept. 11, 2010) — Running against an incumbent with three decades of seniority is hard, especially when the incumbent has raised $1.9 million compared to $497,000 for the challenger. As of the last campaign finance reporting deadline, U.S. Rep. Ike Skelton, a Democrat from Lexington, has spent $773,000 of his $1.9 million warchest, and much of that has gone into television advertising blasting his Republican challenger, Vicky Hartzler, a former state representative from Harrisonville. Hartzler cited those ads in a speech to those attending the Pulaski County Republicans’ fall picnic, held Sept. 11 at the Charles Bassett farm south of Dixon. “Has anyone seen an ad against me? I’m so glad you’re able to see me here tonight so you know that I am not in black and white,” Hartzler said. “I had a friend of mine watch that and say, ‘You looked like the antichrist, Vicky.’ I said, ‘Thanks a lot.’” Hartzler spent much of her speech rebutting claims in those advertisements, including a claim that she had voted against spending for veterans and against right-to-carry gun legislation when she was a member of the state legislature.

Skelton will be tough to beat! His anti-Hartzler ads have been relentless. Hard hitting. He knows he’s in a tough fight, with a loser for a President. Wait until the last week. He will pull out all the stops, if any will exist by then...

Latest poll listed by RCP (mid Aug) had Skelton only +3. This is in toss-up category, and as the article shows, Hartzler needs helps!

Vicky Hartzler for Congress

Skelton runs some risk of backlash by going too negative.

But even a close win may encourage him to retire.

Good point..I hope she beats him..if the GOP tidal wave is a powerful as expected..but if he squeaks out a win..well, I hope Ike enjoys life in the minority..and she should start getting ready for the 2012 race..

Skelton is despicable. Having a bunch of liberal ex-military types throw unspecified accusations at her via commercials is slimy.

Skelton is just another liberal weenie who was given a pass on the Obamacare vote because they new he was in trouble and they didn’t need his vote.

Yes, Fort Leonard Wood is in Pulaski County, and yes, it’s got lots of Koreans (including my wife).

Is it “lost in the woods?” Not necessarily.

Unlike what this place was like just a decade ago or during the Vietnam War era, Fort Leonard Wood is well down the road to being a major Army installation due to the role of the engineers and MPs and chemical corps in modern warfare methods in Iraq and Afghanistan. Think of the chemical corps role in the hunt for weapons of mass destruction, or the role of the engineers in combatting IEDs, or the role of the MPs in Gitmo and Abu Ghraib, or even the role of the Army’s truck driving school in dealing with attacks on convoys. Much of that training goes on here.

After engineer officer training was moved here from Fort Belvoir, and after the Army’s Chemical School and Military Police School moved here from Fort McClellan, and after the 94th Engineers were moved here from Germany and a number of other company-sized and battalion-sized units units were moved here from other overseas or CONUS postings, this has become a much larger place and much higher on the Army’s food chain than it was when not much happened here except basic training and enlisted engineer NCO training.

And I’m sure Skelton would tell you it’s all because he brought home the bacon.

I believe even Marine Corps Engineers train @ Ft. Wood. The area has benefited tremendously from this “boom.” Much has changed since it was merely a BCT Post.

She just needs to keep pointing out that a vote for Ike is a vote for House speaker Nancy Pelosi and a vote to continue Zero’s objectives.

Vicki will vote to repaeal Zerocare. She needs to make that point clear. The only way to defang or reverse Zerocare is to control the house in veto-proof numbers. He needs to go.
