American comedian Greg Giraldo has died five days after he was admitted to hospital following an apparent overdose of prescription drugs.
The 44-year-old father of three was surrounded by his family as he passed away on Wednesday due to complications with the overdose, TMZ reported.
Giraldo, who was divorced, was known for his stand-up routines, in which he skewered the likes of Joan Rivers and David Hasselhoff.

I’m not sure how you “accidentally” overdose but this is one of the leading killers in America. We are an over medicated nation.
So, I clicked on the red link, read the boring story, was going to leave, then noticed a link to info about Jamie Lee Curtis, who has turned me on for 30+ years.
So, sorry about your friend, but thanks for the link to “Chamie Lee”.
Lemme guess.... Benzos mixed with Opiates, and alcohol likely in the mix.
...Seems to get them every time.
My friend? Do you regularly assume when a FReeper posts an article it’s because they are friends with its subject?
It never stops them though.
No doubt, This is just the leftovers.
More than 2,700 pounds of prescription drugs collected in O.C
Judging by the knuckles of the guy’s right hand, he was seriously into some kind of martial art....
Sorry, bad assumption on my part. I guess you post random obituaries of people no one else has ever heard of, from your local newspaper, on a National Conservative political discussion forum.
Guess I should have studied your posting history before I commented. Sorry.
Valium first, alcohol later. Valium first, alcohol later. Should have written it on his hand.
Never heard of him.
“Never heard of him.”
That makes two of us.
I know him. He was on Comedy Central a lot. I think he was on a comedy panel show. Was on the roast typically.
Or an asinine post. In light of your latest, I'm leaning towards the latter.

FR is not only about politics, even you have to be smart enough to know that. But I guess it was my bad for posting a story of a comedian dying from an overdose when clearly the only topic worthy of discussion is your obsession with a has-been scream queen.
Guess I should have studied your posting history before I commented. Sorry.
And I yours. I generally avoid your type. But you seemed bent on embarrassing yourself and who am I to try and stop you.
Have a nice night.
He was not exactly the funniest guy around. But probably far funnier than the average lawyer.
"Giraldo was born in The Bronx and was raised in Queens.[1] He attended Regis High School. He is the oldest son of immigrant parents from Colombia (father) and Spain (mother),[citation needed] and was raised Roman Catholic.[citation needed] From early on, he excelled academically and was selected to attend Camp Rising Sun, the Louis August Jonas Foundation's international summer scholarship program. Giraldo attended Columbia University.
Before becoming a comedian, Giraldo worked as a lawyer, having graduated from Harvard Law School. Giraldo spent less than a year as an associate for Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom before deciding to change his occupation. Despite his prior career, Giraldo rejected that persona and very rarely discussed his days as a lawyer."
I've never heard of him, but a degree from Harvard Law School is quite impressive.
It's anyone's guess why he worked so hard to be lawyer only to throw it away to become a D-list comedian. Perhaps he had to work with lawyers to realize he didn't want to be one.
Unfortunately, with the life he chose he ended up dead at 44. Very sad.
He coulda realized right away in law school that he didn’t want any part of that, but just grinded through 3 years.
Adam Goldstein OD'd on prescription meds less than a year after surviving a plane crash and while in the midst of hosting his own show about...believe it or not...getting people off drugs.
