A new poll from the Public Policy Institute of California finds the candidates for governor are virtually tied, while the incumbent Democrat has a slight lead in the U.S. Senate contest, with just over a month remaining before the Nov. 2 election.

The survey, released Wednesday, finds Republican Meg Whitman has 38 percent support among likely voters in the California governor's race, compared with 37 percent for her rival, Democratic Attorney General Jerry Brown. About 18 percent of voters are undecided, while more than half the respondents said they were not satisfied with either choice.

In the Senate race, Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer has 42 percent support among likely voters, while the Republican candidate, former Hewlett-Packard Co. chief executive Carly Fiorina, has 35 percent support. Nearly one in five voters is undecided in the race.

This poll probably has the best snapshot of the CA races. It was conducted before the most recent debates where both Whitman and Fiorina will probably increase support by a few points.

With nearly 20% undecided voters along with a near flatline economy, it is becoming more and more likely that Whitman and Fiorina will win their seats.

Some findings of the current survey:

* Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman are tied among likely voters in the race for governor.
* Incumbent U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer leads challenger Carly Fiorina by 7 points.
* Slightly more than half of likely voters favor Proposition 19, which would legalize marijuana use.
* A strong majority of Californians think the state is headed in the wrong direction.

Carly really needs to kick into high gear. She hits Babs with the right ads, she’s got a shot.

Sorry, but the ‘mean rich beyotch treated me bad’ presser today likely spiked nutmeg’s chances.

you think so ?
that desperate dem surprise using tired old lefty gloria allread who pulled the exact same tired stunt on arnold
makes me think Meg was pulling ahead like arnie did when the dems played the gloria card in 2003.

I think the Gloria stunt will backfire seriously unless they have something more they have not disclosed yet. The housekeeper says the notification letters from the gov’t came every year and Meg knew about them and threw them away.

After the employee went to the trouble to forge her documents, I doubt she would have handed over the letters when they came arrived (she allegedly handled the incoming mail).

I’m surprised Fiorina is 7 points behind Bird Brain Boxer!

Shocked on my end. I thought Fiorina closed the gap two weeks ago and may have been polling slightly ahead. The big guns are campaigning for Boxer which makes me think the polls might be closer than reported, at least that's my hope.

All four candidates are basically focusing on the same thing. Job jobs jobs.

Fiorina and Whitman are moderates that offer very little to differentiate them from their democRAT opponents. Both Fiorina and Whitman are wishy-washy on illegal immigration because hispanics are such a large voting bloc.

Not only are Carly and NutMeg depressing their base but they are not giving independent voters any reason to vote for them. These two are the worst candidates that republicans could nominate. Makes me wonder that since Brown and Boxer ran unopposed, that many democrats registered as republicans in order to vote for Carly and NutMeg

California is lost. Let it go. If Rino’s are no better than liberals why does anyone care who win’s this race.

If Californians think so little of their state that they continue to send Barbara Boxer to the Senate then SCREW California. The quicker the state hits rock bottom the better. When parasites have nothing left to feed off of they move on to another host. Conservatives in California should pray for a swift death for the state. Maybe then the citizens will give up their addiction to liberal policies.

7 points is not a slight lead.

Unfortunately, Boxer will be re-elected.

Boxer is well under 50% with a month to go, so I do not think she will win.

C'mon Carly.. whatever you have to do to kick this into a higher gear, do it now.

A strong majority of Californians think the state is headed in the wrong direction.

Yet, Boxer leads in every poll by at least 5 points.

I guess they've concluded Boxer is the one to lead the charge for change... go figure.

There are HUGE philosophical differences between Fiorina and Boxer.

I think these races are lost for the GOP. California is just TOO STUPID.

NV is worrying me, too. I envision a Franken scenario where it’s recounted 8 times to give it to Dingy.

I don’t know if I’d call any statewide race a “likely” win for the Republicans.

It IS California. Saying anything there for the GOP as Likely is wishful thinking at best and deluded at worst.
