A former housekeeper for Meg Whitman was "emotionally and financially abused'' during her nine years of employment, an attorney alleged today, adding that the Republican gubernatorial candidate knew the woman was an illegal immigrant.
"In short it was a nightmare,'' said attorney Gloria Allred, who said Nikki Diaz Santillan worked as a housekeeper for Whitman for nine years before she was fired last year.
Allred said that during the woman's years of employment, Whitman caused her "to feel exploited, disrespected, humiliated and emotionally and financially abused.''
"The relationship was terminated last year by Ms. Whitman for what appeared to be political reasons involving Ms. Whitman's decision to run for governor,'' Allred said.
Allred contended that Whitman knew her client was an illegal immigrant, but kept her employed until she decided to run for governor.
Tom Hiltachk, Whitman's attorney, denied the allegation.
"This person was initially hired by Meg Whitman in November 2000,'' Hiltachk said in remarks reported on the Los Angeles Times website. "She filled out standard (Internal Revenue Service) forms and Department of Justice forms and presented her Social Security card and California driver's license. She filled out immigration forms that stated under penalty of perjury that she was a lawful resident.''
Hiltachk said the woman admitted in June 2009 that she was not a legal resident.
"She was immediately suspended and terminated on June 29, 2009,'' he said.
Whitman spokeswoman Andrea Jones Rivera said Allred's news conference was politically motivated. She called Allred "a shameful manipulator'' who is a supporter of Jerry Brown -- Whitman's Democratic opponent in the hotly contested governor's race.
"With the polls tied, it comes as no surprise that the morning after a successful debate for Meg that the sleaze machine of the political left is now focused on the politics of personal destruction.''

I’m sure there are many millions of Californian who wish they were making $23/hour. I wonder if they’ll side with Whitman on this.
Democrats have lowered the ethical standards required of an elected official.
It is difficult to take them serious at this point in time.
Normally I would want the most honest and ethical person elected to office. However, now all I want is someone who will will help stop the out of control spending.
I have a new rule, do not take serious any accusation that comes within a month of an election. It may be true, it may be false, but the motive is certainly to be questioned.
That was a slick effort to interject your liberalism, it is most definitely a big deal to knowingly, or to (wink,wink) hire illegals with slender cover.
In this case, so far, Meg Whitman seems to have done everything right, including saving a copy of the driver's license and SS card, and paying all taxes and paying $23.00 an hour.
After 9 years she went to Whitman asking her to help get her citizenship because she “did not want to present problems for Whitman’s political career”. Whitman balked, refused and fired her 9 days later.
Now she wants to derail Whitman’s political career.

I suspect Whitman is getting caught doing what every other limousine Lib has done over the past decade but, in balance, it shouldn’t be that decisive to this election, especially considering the sorry POS she’s running against. If Brown wins because of this, I’m completely writting California off—its gone way too far down the path of being a Greece-like Socialist state.
When Gloria All Red is involved I switch the channel.Period.
