Really?
He killed himself?
Why did he do that?
Has anyone discussed it?
Answer the question? Don’t you think these two individuals wanted to cause harm when they taped this young man? It is easily a yes or no?
“Makes me wonder if the kid was having a homosexual relationship ...”
Yes. From the guilty’s facebook:
“I went into Molly’s room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay.”
To delight in filming someone have sex without them knowing it, is a very sick thing. That is what I mean by my “sexual predators” comment. I mean, what else are you capable of doing as a person if you can viloate somebody like that.
However, I do see your point. The young man that was filmed is indeed culpable as well. He shouldn't have been fooling around in his dorm room, and he shouldn't have tipped anybody off about it either.
If it is my wife doing it, yeah. It's her room too - not just mine. There is this concept that may be new to you called shared property.
Its germane to both cases.
Unless you ask for privacy and get an agreement that it will be given.
What if the kid hadnt taped him but came back to the room because he forgot something?
Then the roommate would have violated the promise he made wouldn't he have?
Its his room too. No privacy can be expected.
I guess a million excuses can be made for breaking agreements.
An excitable boy they all said (excitable boy)
Just an excitable boy.

Homosexuality is a mental illness. Apparently the young man who committed suicide was confused about who he was. He chose suicide rather than talking to someone or seeking help because of the actions of these two young people. He had choices. He made a wrong one, sadly. The choice was his. Suicide isn’t manslaughter or murder.
Didn't read the story? If convicted they could do 5 years.
Damn if I know. It used to be that people here would read a tragic story like this and pray for the victim and his or her family. Now we've got these other people who revel in what they see as "just desserts". How screwed up is that?
The post I responded to: “Was it wrong to video and post? Probably. A crime? Misdemeanor, MAYBE, and probably not even that.
In a shared room. The young man was very naive to believe it could be possible.
However, his roommate was very wrong in what he did.
Absolutely.
This is a tragic chain of choices. It will hurt everyone involved, and the deceased young man's family, forever.
Why is what I said disturbing?
I am saying that the two creeps were at fault for taping him and even more so for broadcasting it.
He was at fault for his sex acts and for suicide.
It is tragic.
But it is not society’s fault that he committed suicide.
I have no idea what you mean when you are talking about reaping what I’ve sown. Everyone reaps what they sow, it’s a law of nature. God loves everyone, even me. Doesn’t mean He loves what we think, do or say.
There is no expectation of privacy in a shared room. If the young man had left and forgotten something and come back, does he have a right to enter the room? Yes.
Then the roommate would have violated the promise he made wouldn't he have?
It's his room too and he should have the expectation of freely entering it.
I guess a million excuses can be made for breaking agreements.
You're being ridiculous. It's a SHARED room. Both pay equal amounts for it's use. Neither party should expect privacy. It's not possible in a dorm.
It is unquestioned that he should not have been taped. It was naive to think he had privacy in a shared space.
If they had taped him taking a nap, playing cards, studying or playing music, he would not have committed suicide. The homosexuality is an intrinsic part of the story. Why do you want to leave it out?
Then they didn’t read the story as it’s states the penalty if convicted is 5 years. Then of course their reputations are deservedly shot. Who’d trust them now?
People do stupid things, even stupid, wrong, embarassing things all the time, especially naive college freshmen who aren’t adult enough to handle worldwide ridicule, including the ridicule you’ve been dishing out. It’s been dished out since the video went online, before he killed himself. He’s dead now. His sins are between himself and God. He can’t hear or read your words. Somebody else can certainly read them. You’re just entirely too wrapped up in the condemnation and in being right. I have to presume this is out of concern for Biblical morals and their decay in our society. In this you have my agreement, but you absolutely do not have it as far as the way you’re going aobut it. You’re being the very epitome of the stereotype, so much so that I honestly had to check your signup date to see if you were a POE. A POE is a sort of troll, one that seeks to satire a particular group, for instance FReepers.
No one is “reveling”. Just because some people are saying “homosexuality is wrong” doesn’t mean anyone is reveling.
It is a terrible thing and many people will suffer for years because of this, with one young life tragically cut short, by his own hand.
There is nothing to be happy about; it is a horrible chain of events in every way.
There is if the person you share it with makes an agreement to give you privacy.
If the young man had left and forgotten something and come back, does he have a right to enter the room? Yes.
No. Not if you have an agreement to give the other one privacy. In that case you knock on the door. That's what my college roommate and I did.
It's his room too and he should have the expectation of freely entering it.
Not if he has agreed not to for a specified time. Obviously the roommate made the agreement with the intent to break it.
You're being ridiculous. It's a SHARED room.
It is ridiculous to expect a roommate to live up to an agreement? Maybe in your world.
It is unquestioned that he should not have been taped. It was naive to think he had privacy in a shared space.
Funny thing about that. That is exactly how the roommate violated his privacy and broke the agreement they had.
I think they thought his feelings might be hurt, They may have thought he might cry. That is wrong. I have been opposed to that always. I do not think they ever conceived that it might cause him any physical harm, however.
Does trying to make someone feel bad equate to a crime worthy of long prison time?
I see this more as a misdemeanor.
