NEW JERSEY (WPIX) — A freshman at Rutgers University, first the victim of allegedly being secretly taped during a sexual encounter by two other students, is believed to have committed suicide.
Fellow freshmen students Dharun Ravi, 18, of Plainsboro and Molly Wei, 18, of Princeton have been charged with invasion of privacy for allegedly placing a camera in the 18-year-old student's dorm room.
Authorities say parts of the recording were placed on the internet.
Ravi and Wei were charged with two counts each of invasion of privacy for using a camera to view and transmit a live image of the 18-year-old boy during a sexual encounter on Sept. 19.
Ravi was additionally charged with two more counts of invasion of privacy for trying to use the hidden camera to view the same student during another sexual encounter just three days later on Sept. 21.
According to sources, the victim from Ridgewood -- whose identity PIX 11 News is withholding -- is believed to have jumped off the George Washington bridge on Thursday, Sept. 23. The victim's car was found nearby with both his cell phone and computer inside.
Ravi was released on $25,000 bail Tuesday after surrendering to Rutgers police. Wei was released on her own recognizance Monday after surrdenering to Rutgers University police.
According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan, it is a fourth-degree crime to collect or view images depicting nudity or sexual content of an individual without that person's consent. The crime becomes a third-degree offense if the images are transmitted or distributed.
If convicted, Ravi and Wei face up to five years in jail.
A distraught Tyler Clemente, 18, left his wallet on the George Washington Bridge before plunging to his death in the Hudson River last Wednesday, sources said.
At least two people spotted him standing on the south walk of the bridge near the New York side at 8:50 p.m. The Ridgewood, N.J., teen left no note before jumping, the sources said.
His body was not yet recovered.

on his Twitter feed, Ravi vaguely refers to an internet instant messaging service that includes live video streams called iChat, according to NJ.com.
“Roommate asked for room again. Its happening again. People with iChat don’t you dare video chat me from 930 to 12,” NJ.com reports Ravi posted Sept. 22, the day after cops say he tried to livestream, for the second time, one of the victim’s sexual encounters. The website reports Ravi’s Twitter page, which apparently has been taken down, has 150 followers.

The roommate, Dharun Ravi, is said to have made the video available for others to view online and then bragged about the incident on Twitter:
“Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly’s room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay.”
“Anyone with iChat, I dare you to video chat me between the hours of 9:30 and 12. Yes it’s happening again.”

Sounds like the extent of Wei’s involvement was to allow this idiot Ravi the use of her computer.

....OK...now I think that I understand...Ravi was tired of getting run out of his room so that Clemente could have sex there...so the whole sex tape thing was payback.
