Inhofe Says EPA's New Boiler Rule Could Kill Nearly 800,000 Manufacturing Jobs
Fox News ^ | 9/28/10 | Staff

The top Republican on a Senate environmental panel released a scathing report Tuesday that he contends shows that the Environmental Protection Agency's new proposed rule on cleaning up boilers nationwide could devastate America's manufacturing base and imperil hundreds of thousands of jobs without providing any real public health or environmental benefits. In June, the EPA issued a proposal that would force industrial, commercial and institutional boilers and heaters to use "maximum achievable control technology" to reduce harmful emissions that erode air quality and pose a public health risk.

The EPA needs to be destroyed, never to be resurrected.

This, then, is a must-do for Obama. The only questions I have are how many more (government) EPA employees will Obama need to hire and will they be SEIU or some other Obama influenced group?

There sure better be significant changes for the better in this country after November..... soon.

We can sit in holding for only so long, while we watch the deliberate destruction of our country.

Contempt, hate, rage... there must be some stronger words to describe how I feel about these bastards that are tearing our country apart.

I wish more congresscritters would jump on Inhofe’s bandwagon, beating on this stuff — day in and day out.

If the public listened to some reasoned input, instead of all the campaign hullabaloo, Dems would not be in the majority, IMO.

I just don’t see 800,000 job losses. We have 4 boilers in my building and they all use “maximum achievable control technology” Two were replaced last year and two next year, all inspected by the State. All schools, municipal buildings, all government buildings have huge boilers and large heaters to heat the complex. If they are not up to current code, ie natural gas then they must be replaced with the new technology; creating more manufacturing jobs.

The most harmful emissions come out of EPA’s regulatory department. If we could harness the EPA’s power trip we would energy independent.

How about putting a couple of million citizens out of heat in January? How about the EPA explaining why that is necessary?

Do you think what you think of as “maximum achievable control technology”, and what an Obama EPA appointee sees as “maximum achievable control technology”, are the same? If so, why?

“The agency, which is required to finalize the proposal by Dec. 16, has argued that implementing the rule would prevent 1,900 to 4,800 premature deaths in 2013 by reducing pollutants like dioxin, mercury and carbon monoxide, which are known or suspected to cause cancer and other serious health and environmental effects.

The EPA also lists a series of other benefits, including a reduction in asthma, bronchitis, heart attacks, hospital visits and lost work days. The agency says the value of the benefits ranges from $17 billion to $41 billion in 2013 alone — outweighing the costs of implementing the new rule by at least $14 billion.”

I wonder if this passes the Data Quality Act and the Principle of Forecasting sniff test? Or is this just blowing smoke up our ...

I see it likely happening. I'm a retired Medical Facility Building Maintenance Mechanic. Boiler operation/maintenance was one of my jobs as well. Non Profit Organizations meaning places like Health Care Facilities such as nursing homes, hospitals, etc, just for starters which are already squeezing pennies to meet Dear Leader and Congress Magical Mandates will start closing down.

BTW not all schools have boilers. Many newer ones are electric heat with package units {through the wall} in classrooms.

Now here is something to really think about. Something EPA is not thinking about. Many of the places I listed such as Hospitals have dual fueled boilers. The preferred fuel is Natural Gas in most cases on modern boilers. However to keep the building operational in the event of emergency many can also operate off of Diesel Fuel. Not pretty coming from the stack but better than patients freezing. That is unless you work for the EPA of course.

The key word is “maximum” achievable control technology. Unless EPA has access to dilithium crystals or “blue energy” from the V TV series. Then they will have to use current control technology to get from where we are to where they want us to be. Are they going to shut down our schools, our government buildings, our Military bases? A lot of military instillations use coal fired central steam boiler plants. Will they shut down? It’s not going to happen.

Of course if you come up with a patent that will eliminate an additional 25% of the emissions from a coal burner the govt won’t even talk to you about it. Oh yeh except for looking for a way around your patent to design one themselves.

The Kenyan Clown works to destroy this country.

Even voting in a Republican congress will do nothing to prevent these executive actions. The Kenyan Clown will never sign a law limiting the power of the EPA to make these arbitrary decisions.

It will take a Republican president to reverse this decision, and by that time, enormous damage will have already been done.

With the radicals in EPA right now, anything is possible. These are people who have dubbed CO2 a pollutant. CO2 at the levels under current consideration isn’t a pollutant, it is a plant growth stimulant!
