Actually, I was thinking of an obscure scene in Vonnegut’s “Cat’s Cradle.”
One of the characters is a selfless doctor running a clinic during a massive third world epidemic. His son is helping him; bodies are piling up all over and being pushed around by bulldozers; they are running out of medicine. Overwhelmed, he suddenly starts laughing hysterically, and says, (you guessed it), “Son...”
