‘Leaving California’ list grows to 144 firms for 2010 (34 in Orange County alone)
Orange County Register ^ | 09/23/2010 | Jan Norman

Posted on 09/26/2010 8:34:10 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Irvine consultant Joe Vranich, who has been compiling a list of companies leaving California because of the state’s anti-business environment, is now up to 144 companies that have departed in 2010, including 34 in Orange County.

In addition, he lists 51 companies (8 from Orange County) that left in 2009. That three-fold increase, Vranich says, is the tip of the iceberg that is California’s financial woes.

“Quite clearly, the exodus of businesses out of California continues. It makes sense for companies to reduce their California footprint considering the ample supply of attractive, lower-cost alternative locations. Unless California reduces its hostility toward business, we will see more commercial enterprises seeking friendlier locations in which to relocate entirely or at least place facilities there that used to be located here.”

Among the Orange County companies new to his list are Boeing, Kennametal Inc., Latex International, Multi-Fineline Elextronix Inc., NGK Spark Plug Co., Pipeline Software Inc., Smith Micro Software Inc. and Witt Heat Transfer Products Group, most of which have been previously reported by the Register. Vranich says Orange County may be over-represented on his list because news reports are one source of his information and the Register reports business comings and goings more than some publications.

Vranich doesn’t include in his list every company that opens a facility elsewhere. Here’s how he explains:

“I’ve excluded countless companies that are attempting to serve new territories or new customers, are expanding because the company is growing, or are acquiring companies located elsewhere. When events appear unrelated to California’s hostile business environment, I give the companies the benefit of the doubt and leave them off the list.

Which locations are benefiting from California’s exodus? Vranich says in a Fox&Hounds article:

I’m a proud Southerner.
In my lifetime, I’ve had the “pleasure” of meeting a few “native” Californians who felt the need to passively inform me of how California was superior to the South.
As I’ve grown, I have come to realize that California is without a doubt the “dumbest” state in the Union....

“The Citizens of California deserve this for constantly voting overwhelmingly for decades for Democrat politicians who destroy the tax base with huge benefits for illegals and those who refuse to get a job.”

Even those of us who didn’t vote for that?

All this, and STILL Boxer is pulling away in virtually every poll. Looks to me like CA seems quite satisfied with the status quo. With working people fleeing, I guess it makes sense the proportionate numbers of the dependency class would rise.

Very true. They leave California and bring their liberal virus with them. Then try to infect their new places of residence. All one has to do is look at what the California virus has done to Portland, Oregon; Boulder/Denver/Ft. Collins, and Seattle to get a taste of what Californians will attempt to do when they migrate to a new state. Colorado is slowly becoming the new California and wheras Texas is pretty good at fighting such diseases as the California virus, but the virus does have an infested nest started in Texas. It is called Austin.

States, they move to, need to disinfect Californians and tell them in no uncertain terms that their libtard ideas are not accepted and they need to abide by the traditions of the state they are moving to. If they are unwilling, then tell them NY,Vermont and Mass. would welcome them and their virus.

Report: 40 percent of county’s Medi-Cal births to illegal immigrants

NORTH COUNTY —— A state report quietly released last spring shows illegal immigrants made up the largest single group of those giving birth at taxpayer expense in the state and in San Diego County in 2004.

The May report, “Medi-Cal Funded Deliveries,” states that of the 14,350 taxpayer-funded births in the county that year, 5,814, or 40.5 percent, were to illegal immigrants. That is an 18 percent increase over the 4,916 Medi-Cal-funded deliveries to illegal immigrants in San Diego County in 2001, as shown in an earlier state report.

On Friday morning, Vista resident Silvia stopped to talk with a visitor as she headed into the Vista Community Clinic with her 1-year-old son in her arms and her 4-year-old son in tow. The 24-year-old woman said in Spanish that she is an illegal immigrant and has lived in the United States for 10 years. She spoke on the condition that her last name not be published.
Silvia, a native of Oaxaca, Mexico, said Medi-Cal paid labor and delivery costs for both of her children, and added that she is frustrated that now she has to pay for their medical care and that she expected Friday’s doctor visit to cost her $35.

“I think they should pay,” said the woman who earns $11 an hour at a local factory but receives no health benefits. “I buy things, I pay taxes.”

A few minutes later, a woman named Maria was leaving the clinic with her 6-year-old son and 5-month-old daughter. The 27-year-old native of San Luis, Mexico, who also spoke on the condition of anonymity, said she is a single mom who struggles to survive by cleaning houses. She said she has lived in the U.S. for 13 years and is an illegal immigrant. Medi-Cal paid the delivery costs for her children, Maria said, adding that she is grateful for the help.

“I think I should pay, but I can’t,” said Maria, as she waited at the bus stop.

Statewide in 2004, providers delivered 248,086 babies at taxpayers’ expense, according to the report. Of those, 105,665, or 42.6 percent, were to illegal immigrants. That’s a 13.5 percent increase over the 93,094 Medi-Cal-funded deliveries to illegal immigrants in the state in 2001, as shown in the earlier report.

At an average cost of $3,224 each for 74,835 vaginal deliveries and $5,153 each for 30,830 Cesarean deliveries in 2004, the total cost to taxpayers ran more than $400 million. Of that total, about $22 million was for births in San Diego County.

The amounts included doctors’ fees and, in many cases, pre- and postnatal care.

Despite the cost, a local doctor says the money is a necessary investment.

Bernard Wosk, a physician at the nonprofit Vista Community Clinic, immigrated to the U.S. from his native Nicaragua 20 years ago. He said he has prenatal patients who are illegal immigrants.

Wosk said he understands that laws are necessary to stop illegal immigration.

“But the point is they are already here and if you are talking about taxpayer money, it has been proven that the more you spend on prenatal care, the more you save in the mid- and long-term,” Wosk said. “Moneywise, it makes sense and humanitarianwise, you can’t turn your back on a newborn.”

San Diego County’s 5,814 births to illegal immigrants in 2004 placed it third in the rankings of the 58 counties in the state. Topping the list was Los Angeles County, with 41,240, followed by Orange County, with 10,979 births to illegal immigrant mothers.

Yep. Your state is no longer viable financially for business or even state governance. It has been corrupted by lazy voters and activist voters who let this happen. Just not enough of the good guys left.

Be careful what you wish for. Liberal Californians will change your state more quickly than you can imagine. And it’s my understanding that Virginia is a state teetering on the edge as it is.

“they’re going to start leaving Oregon too after they passed laws that will harm small businesses here as wellby spreading the wealth around”

I left Oregon in July to attend law school in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I love my new home town! I am very happy to bring my income earning skills to a state that doesn’t see me as the enemy!

Yes, bring your snow shovel you will need it for January and February.

Bit also bring your water skis and boiating geer for summer in the lake.

And hiking boots for the amazing flowery springs and beautiful fall foliage

BUT ONLY if Paladino is elected. I think it will spark NY growth and spell the death of the old status quo.

If you have a business you can pay your employees half what they get paid in California and THEY WILL BE HAPPY because the cost of living is so low.

I have a 21 room stone castle with 5 fireplaces, fully finished basement with pool room and bar room, 3 floors, 3 bathrooms, built-in swimming pool on an entire acre of lawn with mature trees and a huge pond in the valley across the street from my house. $450K

Lesser houses in CA sell for a million and a half

LOL

Couple years back, met a new fellow on the job. Said he was from California, couldn’t work at “home” so he came to Alaska - stood out with a real dark tan.

I told him that califlowers weren’t real well liked due to their constant “well, in CA we...” stories.

Told him the better story was to tell folks he moved in from Thailand, where he had run a (mumble mumble) bath house. That way he would be quickly accepted as a former small business owner.

And don’t forget New Mexico. They have RUINED Santa Fe. They built that stupid rail line just to get workers to the city, since no one middle-class can afford to live within 50 miles of Santa Fe. It’s now a liberal Hollywood enclave. Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame retired there. Need I say more?

Let’s see, I need to buy a snow shovel when I can be water skiing during that same time? Check my tag line.

I know people in Buffalo (Williamsville) and I remember having a discussion of snow drifts over 10 feet in early April just a few yesrs ago.

California is about to become a "failed state" thanks to Brown et. al. His campaign for governor is promoting "green industry," as the solution. Pure bunk. Back in the 70s, Brown blew $600million on The Geysers, a geo thermal power plant that never produced a single KW. He was never held accountable for the waste and fraud.

Green Industry is a fantasy. 100% dependent on government subsidy. If he becomes governor, expect the state's decline to accelerate.

Our once great educational system is a shambles. The LAUnified School District is a laughing stock. It's tragic. Democrats in California should be charged with governance malpractice. We're the perfect example of the majority learning that it can loot the treasury. In this, I'm afraid, we're leading the nation.

Kalispell/Big Fork, MT. also, but the harsh winters have made it difficult for them to tolerate it like in Santa Fe.

A variant of Cali disease, i.e. New England libtard strain, is infecting Asheville and Raleigh/Durham/Cary, NC.

California is dead.

Doesn’t matter how it votes this fall.

California is dead.

The only questions now are 1) will this dead be slow and painful or fast and messy and 2) how much Federal money will be dumped down the hole before the Ruling Class decides it is a lost cause.
