Margin virtually unchanged after months of campaigning
AUSTIN Ill will toward President Barack Obama and a voter belief that Republican Gov. Rick Perry has helped save the Texas economy are giving Perry a re-election lead over Democrat and former Houston Mayor Bill White, according to a new poll done for the Houston Chronicle and four other state newspapers.
Perry leads with 46 percent support to 39 percent for White, with Libertarian candidate Kathie Glass trailing at 4 percent among likely voters; 11 percent were undecided.
Green Party candidate Deb Shafto had less than 1 percent support.
"It's not an insurmountable lead," said pollster Micheline Blum, but "he certainly looks like he's headed for another term. Perry has probably both the votes and the enthusiasm behind him."
Despite White and his allies spending millions of dollars on television ads attacking Perry this summer, Blum said the race has remained essentially unchanged since February.
Blum said voters seem to have made up their minds early, and she sees little volatility in the race. Blum said the voters who are undecided probably will not cast a ballot Nov. 2.
The enthusiasm of Republican voters is dramatic. Among registered voters who answered the survey, Republicans held an advantage of 9 percentage points roughly typical of the vote in recent elections.
Among those who said they are likely to vote, the Republican advantage jumped to 18 percentage points over Democrats.

What does White say about the border? Open or closed?
Dunno what he’s saying now but Houston is a sanctuary city.
White is a Sancuary city advocate AND ordered the HPD to leave the illegals alone. Plus he was a BIG supporter of ACORN until they went underground.

I also heard that Bill White posts blog excerpts in the breaking news section! :o
Oh, gee. What I hear here locally leads me to believe they’re neck and neck. I didn’t think that sounded right. I’ll hold my nose and vote for Perry. “Elmer Fudd” White is a no-go.
Get a rope!

Perry hold lead over White
White has been running campaign commercials accusing Perry of neglecting security at the border, and details his new plan to put more law enforcement there to secure it.
Apparently, his polls are telling him that this is a hot issue in Texas, but is hoping that no one will remember that he made Houston a "sanctuary city" while he was mayor.
I'm surprised that Perry hasn't rebutted the accusation and describe White's past policies. But, maybe Perry is waiting until closer to the election.
Isn’t it in Houston that a group discovered an area that claimed to have 25,000 registered voters (after a voter sign-up drive by SEIU) and turned out to have less than 1,800. We need more groups like the Houston group that is discovering empty lots with multiple voters signed up, an 8 bed homeless facility with 40 voters signed up, etc. Of course, it is necessary to have a Republican running the county because with a Dem running it, these mis-counts would go directly into the round file - after screams of racism, etc.
Yep. The Tax Assessors office figured that one out.
Look folks, like Rcik Perry or not, he is going to be the next Governor of Texas!!! Bill White is going nowhere. Never has been going anywhere!!! POTUS Barack Hussein Obama is hated here in Texas, so any candidate with a capital “D” next to their name is on their own. White will get promptly spanked real good by Perry come November 2, 2010. And......folks want an early hint as to how Texas will go, just count the “early votes” and who they came from and you will see the trend!!!!

Yep there should be a good turnout this year. Early voting begins 22 days hence:
October 18, 2010.. on a Monday.
Perry has a bad habit of assuming Texans know White is a lying SOS.
We shall see if he is right.
Texans know White is a washington, D.C. (Clinton Admin.)
opportunist with leftie plans for Texas. NO THANK YOU. Remember Kay Bailey.
Absolutely. Perry has been governor too long and, as you say, is not perfect but I would not vote for White.
He hasn’t been a good mayor for Houston. Admittedly he’s had to deal with the reeking remnants of the Katrina mess who refused to leave but he hasn’t even handled that well.
Bottom line: I wouldn’t vote for a democrat for anything.
Kathie Glass supports “gay marriage” and appears to support a “woman’s right to choose”.
This is not the year to be running as a Democrat, espically in Texas.
