What they easily could’ve done is ignore Palin. Talk about Palin as little as possible. All the attacks from the media only serve to raise Palin up as the opposition to them.

You mean the GOP candidate for vice president of the United States? You mean after the election, allowing her the space to build her place as the new super star of the GOP and simply cover her like they do democrat politicians of that stature and letting her pace her own image, at her own rate, for instance staying in office in Alaska rather than having to devote 24 hours a day in the lower 48, to saving her political future from this incredible, non stop, media assault?

Bad publicity, negative name branding, and radicalizing their image and positions, does not help a candidate running for president.

Do you really not know about Dan Quayle?

I know all about Quayle. I know that they’re trying to do to Palin what they did to Quayle. But the point I’m making is that it’s not working. Maybe the media isn’t as powerful as it was 16 years ago.

Maybe it doesn’t work on women? I don’t know. What I can say is that Palin is at the top spot. There’s a lot that Palin doesn’t have. She wasn’t a billionaire, so she couldn’t use immense resources to make things happen. She wasn’t well known prior to being picked, so there was no national fundraising base. And on and on. Romney had or has those things, and he is not at the top spot, Palin is. She is the one people are talking about.

My argument is simply that she’s at the top spot. The proof is in the pudding.

We can’t know what would’ve happened if the media refused to cover her. If what Sarah wrote on her facebook wasn’t news. Not covered. If everything she did was just met with a big ol yawn. It didn’t happen that way.

In theory, yes, of course you’re right. She was hounded out of office which was bad, very very bad. Of course, that allows her to hang out down here instead of doing boring stuff no one cares about in Alaska, to change the experience number from 2. something to 4. She can’t be campaigning down in the lower 48 if she’s governing in Alaska.

If she wasn’t hounded with stupid ethics complaints, she wouldn’t have had an excuse to quit.

It seems that people are just so emotionally wedded to the idea of Sarah as victim and Christine as victim, that the clear benefits to the attacks are ignored.

It seems on some threads that people all applaud and clap for each other when we go “waaaaahhhh, the mean media is attacking Sarah or Christine again”. People do understand that the media is mean, and Sarah and Christine do get sympathy from people who know that the media is being unfair.
