this is bs. House sales gains at least up to 500k for mfj are not subject to any obamacare tax. No need to make up things.

Don't accuse me of making things up. Its from the web site, is you would have spent a second clicking on the link you would have known that. If you have contrary information to share then do so. My issue is its from a April 2010 post, so I don't know if what they were talking about is still in the bill.

That's what it says on Snopes, but in this case, Snopes is wrong. It's mfj of 250K, not 500K, which you can read for yourself earlier in the same Snopes article. The mistake they made was applying the 250K to both husband and wife, which is not the way the law is worded.

Note that Snopes is careful to attribute the erroneous example to someone else. It's as though they know it's wrong, but though they use it authoritatively to prove their point, they're shielded. It's not their fault.

Snopes is run by an extremely liberal couple.

What is mfj? Can you cite the part of the obamacare law that deals with this? Thanks!

This is correct. I have read that part of the bill.

Did you bother to actually read the bill?

Health Care [sic] Bill - Reconciliation Act of 2010

Sec. 1411 - Imposition of Tax
a.1. - In the case of an individual, there is hereby imposed (in addition to any other tax imposed by this subtitle) for each taxable year a tax equal to 3.8 percent of the lesser of -(B) the excess (if any) of the modified adjusted gross income for such taxable year over the threshold amount.

(b) THRESHOLD AMOUNT - For the purpose of this chapter, the term 'threshold amount' means in the case of a taxpayer making a joint return under section 6013 or a surviving spouse (as defined in section 2(a)), $250,000.
