Dems announce return of 9/11 responders bill

House Democratic leaders Friday evening announced they would bring back to to the floor a bill to bolster health services for 9/11 first responders next week during the last few days in session before the midterm election.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said in a joint statement that they’d bring the bill to the floor for a second time under a rule, requiring a simple majority to pass. It had been brought up under suspension of the rules, and failed to meet the higher vote threshold required because of Republican opposition.

Republicans who opposed the legislation didn’t like how it was paid for. Democratic leaders avoided bringing the bill to the floor under a rule because of a peripheral fight over illegal immigrants.

A Democratic House leadership aide said they will “make clear that this issue is far too important to use as a vehicle to score political points.”

“We are confident that if Republicans don't play games with the heroes of 9/11, the bill will pass,” the leadership aide said.

They probably need this bill to attach an amendment to that would provide “stimulus” dollars for the construction of the Ground Zero Victory Mosque. The DemocRATS always come out with bills like this when they are trying to sneak one of their “screw you America” schemes through.

“Make clear that this issue is far too important to use as a vehicle to score political points.”

Did they miss a few meals or some sleep? With elections weeks away, they truly sound delusional.

What’s ALREADY HIDDEN in this bill, that makes them so eager to pass it?

Dems don’t really care about some injured 9/11 firefighters.

Bigtime dittos to what you said. They want to sneak this through and it has nothing to do with the first responders. There is something else there.

Last time around I think they were trying to sneak in health benefits for illegals (plus they couldn’t demonstrate how any of this would be paid for). Who knows what’s in there now?

But it’s also to try to show how ‘uncaring’ the Republicans are towards the responders right before the elections by sticking in whatever nonsense is in there, and trying to force votes against it.

It’s an issue that America would do well to think over. Impromptu civil defense like this should be addressed from a military budget, not a domestic affairs budget.

“don’t let the dims do anything”

Well, it would be on thing if this were a simple vote to aid the responders. But they always have to play politics with things like this to try get votes for campaign ads.

If the Dems really wanted to do this, they would have left out all the extraneous stuff, and had a clean bill on this awhile ago.
