Its the electorate, stupid!
A testy U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry yesterday blamed clueless voters with short attention spans for the uphill battle beleaguered Democrats are facing against Republicans across the nation.
We have an electorate that doesnt always pay that much attention to whats going on so people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or the truth or whats happening, Kerry told reporters after touring the Boston Medical Center yesterday.
Conservative political blogger William Jacobson, who writes Legal Insurrection, immediately pounced on Kerrys comments, saying that attitude is why voters are looking to shake up Capitol Hill by electing upstart candidates such as U.S. Sen. Scott Brown.
It just continues the Democrats theme that the reason people are upset is because they dont understand. Theyre not smart enough. That sort of rhetoric just gets people even more upset, said Jacobson.
Democratic consultant Phil Johnston, former chairman of the state party, jumped to Kerrys defense, saying, Thats absurd. Hes just making the point that people have real lives to lead and most people are not spending a lot of time worrying about politics, particularly in a tough economy. Ive known John Kerry for 35 years and he doesnt look down on people.
Kerry made the remarks on voters following questions about U.S. Rep Barney Franks re-election campaign and queries about securing federal funding for the Hub hospital.
I think a lot of the anger today - while its appropriate because Washington is broken - is not directed at the right people, said Kerry. Barney is prepared, as others are, to explain what were doing. I think when people hear the facts and they see what were doing, it frankly makes sense.
In the interview, Kerry added that voters should be mad at stonewalling Republicans and big money in politics instead, referring to a bill blocked by Republicans Thursday that would reveal corporate and union leaders who fund big-bucks political ads.
He went on to blame the legislative logjam in Washington, D.C., for fewer federal dollars sent to the state.
John Feehery, a Washington D.C.-based Republican consultant, said Kerrys comments mark yet another embarrassing stumble for the gaffe-prone senior senator. In 2006, the former presidential candidate had to apologize for a statement he made at a California college that U.S. students who did not study hard and stay in school would end up stuck in Iraq.
I think that arrogance sums up why John Kerry didnt get elected president, Feehery said. Hes out of touch.
Friend - we’re the majority. The ruling class are the kook fringe.
What an effing Rube. First, Kerry, the reason people are mad is, precisely, because they have - and understand - information about what’s going on in D.C.; the only difference from the past is that now we have ready access to information we couldn’t get in the past thanks to the internet. Second, it’s nice of you to blather on about how the states aren’t getting enough tax dollars from Washington, but don’t you think that people like you - rich liberal tax evaders (oh, you know, you, Geithner, Biden, Rangel, etc, etc) - are contributing as much to the problem you’re going on about?
The more these elitists try to “educate” us - the more people swing away from them.
Go ahead - let them keep talking.

Voter’s woes stem from functionally illiterate Reps and Senators.
Yep, but was for only a month or 2 and got a load of Purple Hearts for beer tab cut and rice frag in the butt.
This frog pretender is very near the top of the list for anti-American contestants on “Dancing from the Lampposts”.
You would say the American people are not stupid, even considering the present occupant of the White House???
The spring after his great loss, I was driving through Stanley, ID and saw Lord Kerry. On a turnout by the river, he was standing, in his black leathers, using a hairbrush to fix his do. There were three beefy gentlemen with him. One was holding a black helmet as Kerry brushed. The other two were loading a fancy Italian touring motorcycle into an enclosed trailer behind a dark-windowed Suburban. Obviously, Kerry had ridden the bike over Galena Summit to Stanley from his wife’s house in Sun Valley, about 50 miles. And obviously, he had three goons follow him in case of trouble, and he was not going to ride back the way he came.
He’s right about some uninformed voters. A recent poll stated that 52% of Americans still think Obama can do a better job with the economy than George Bush. If that poll is even close to the truth, then this country is sunk. If a good majority of adults haven’t figured out what a disaster Obama is, we might as well split up and be done with it.
Yawn Kerry...the haughty Yawn Kerry (who served in Vietnam)...WISHES the electorate were igorant and uninformed. (Well, the ones who vote for him are)
Rather, it is BECAUSE the electorate IS knowledgeable, and dialed in with what’s going on, that people are pissed, and are ready to electorally storm the gates.
‘We have an electorate that doesnt always pay that much attention to whats going on so people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or the truth or whats happening,

John Kerry - The fart in the dems elevator.
LOL good one.
“On a turnout by the river, he was standing, in his black leathers, using a hairbrush to fix his do. “
Even when motorcycling in the country Lord Kerry remains remarkably coiffed!... and even has manservants to assist. Idaho doesn’t see this too often. Very funny.
