Comedian Stephen Colbert's appearance before a House panel on farm jobs and illegal immigrants made a mockery of one of the most contentious issues of the election season. In playing host to this display, Democrats proved their self-destructive instincts are alive and well....
The type of mockery that plays on cable television doesn't translate well to the halls of Congress, especially when that body is held in such low public esteem and its gravitas is greatly in question. This was not the time for Democrats to make a farce of the process of lawmaking. For his part, Mr. Colbert was at a loss to make every response into a punch line. His ad-libbed comment about "gay Iowans" being "corn packers" amused neither homosexuals nor Iowans, and from the expression on his face it seemed Mr. Colbert knew the joke had fallen flat....
Mr. Colbert is mocking the 42 percent of Americans who self-identify as conservatives. He will continue this inexplicable form of political activism with his "March to Keep Fear Alive" rally in Washington on Oct. 30. If Mr. Colbert wants to keep conservative voters energized, he's doing a good job of it. In November, voters will have the last laugh.

So, Colbert is to Pelosi as his horse was to Caligula?
They took the words right out of my mouth. That stunt was a fiasco!
As the economy sinks further into hell, the rats waste more of our money. Don’t these morons know that he made complete fools of them? Where is the Repubs commercial for this waste of funds?
“Where is the Repubs commercial for this waste of funds?”
I dunno but they should have walked out.
What a bunch of idiots! At least the MSM is actually giving them some minor criticism. But could you imagine the outrage if this was a Republican congress who called Jeff Foxworthy to testify about the plight of poor Appalachia, and he showed up and told several hours worth of, “You might be a redneck” jokes. Sound Ridiculous? Well that’s exactly what the dems did!
All I know is, he was the only one talking about his colonoscopy and corn packing. Just saying.
The economy is in the tank yet, Barry goes away for four month luxury vacations and Congress is using the Capital Building to make funny home videos for themselves. I don’t recall such a pathetic crop of politicians in my life. Talk about fiddling while Rome burns.
I think Barney Frank’s ears perked up when he heard corn packers-he would gobble a cob.
Thank you. You are quite correct. The propaganda media would not report it anyway, however.
But Congress already IS a farce. They are SO DISGUSTING.
You got it! Coate’s testimony before the Civil Rights Commission was eclipsed by this buffoonery.
Dims assumed he would stick barbs in Repubs like he always does, Unfortunately he was mocking Congress as a whole and made them look really really bad :)
Dims shot themselves again. Unemployment near 10%, no tax cut renewal, and they spend time with this clown.
Disgusting and inappropriate. There are families out here that are hurting..lost jobs, lost homes, anxiety, and fear for the future and family members serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and these elected crap-weasels are mocking this country with juvenile antics and acting like it’s all a big joke....
Fire their sorry a$$es in NOV.
I am disgusted with all of them.
Colbert and the Democrats who invited him to testify deserve one another.
“...and he showed up and told several hours worth of, You might be a redneck jokes. Sound Ridiculous? Well thats exactly what the dems did!”
Except most of Foxworthys’ jokes are pretty funny. Colbert really fell flat. I mean Rachel Corrie flat.
I really hope some mileage is gained on how utterly stupid this stunt was. This was really boundary-stretching stupid, and it came off so blundering as to be an embarassment.
I still think some traction can be gained by offering young voters the dichotomy of...’..hey, who wants to get a job when you can stay in your Mom’s house, collect unemployment, and watch Comedy Central?’
Major fail. I never thought Colbert was funny in the first place, he’s just a one-note O’Reilly imitator whose 15 minutes ended years ago. I can’t understand why people keep saying, “Yeah, he’s funny, but...” He ain’t funny!
Given what they’ve done the last couple of years...how could anybody tell?
