Today the Republican Party rolled out a 21-page political agenda they've dubbed 'Pledge To America.' Recalling Republicans' 1994 "Contract With America," the Pledge is the GOP's gimmicky attempt to lay out what their agenda will be if they regain control of one or both houses of Congress.
Included in the "Pledge To America" is a promise to cap federal hiring. This provision would hurt American workers in a number of ways.
By cutting--not creating--more jobs in an economy where there are already nearly five unemployed workers for every job opening.
By enacting a hiring freeze which could result in an even larger pool of unaccountable and costly private contractors.
While the GOP's pre-election manifesto promises to cut taxes and spending, the document "does not specify how the spending reductions would be carried out." Now, isn't that convenient for House GOP'ers? Per usual, it's all talk, with no authentic plan of action.

Kate, isn’t there something better you could do with your hands besides using them to write this drivel defending these corporate leeches?
Oh yeah—you can be damn sure it targets federal workers. I’d be mad if it didn’t.
No doubt. The best thing that can happen to America is to bust SEIU.
Question for these dumbasses (including Obama) who call the GOP the party of “special interests”.......
Are government employee unions special interests?
Are radical enviro-socialist groups special interests?
Are trial lawyers special interests?
Is the AARP a special interest?
Go screw yourself you union thug, your time is over.
Unions among government workers should be illegal. “Conflict of interest”?
Conflict of interest.
LOL. Thanks for posting that. I wanted to but haven’t figured how to do it from my iPhone.
Four out of ten people in Greece “work” for the government. How those riots going?
Government jobs do not help the economy.
Sure it causes the affirmative action and SEIU class to at least show up for their welfare checks, but it doesnt do anything to lower the deficit.
At first I thought the “Pledge” was pretty lame ... but the SEIU commentary is a ringing endorsement to my ears!
However, on reflection, I still think the “Pledge” is pretty lame. The SEIU would have objected to any Republcan Party document, even if it contained the text of the Communist Manifesto verbatim.
A freeze on hiring federal employees is a great idea. Make it so.
Only so many times you can cry “wolf”.
Yeah teah yeah... Evil Republicans... hate poor... tax breaks to rich... yada ydada yada
This is starting to sounds foolish even to Dems
Reagan would fire them all.
This guy is a complete stooge (no offense to Larry, Moe, and Curly). The promise is to cap ‘federal’ hiring, as in government jobs, as in ‘jobs’ that consume money and DON’T make any in return. Yes, we need more jobs, ‘private sector’ jobs, jobs that produce revenue and grow economy. Oh, but we can’t have that, because most ‘private sector’ jobs can’t be controlled by unions.
Aren’t the unions the biggest special interest group around?
SEIU is going to be pared down.
When theillegal intruders are sent back south of the border, they will have about 35% of their current membership.
