Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, a fierce critic of the United States and a defender of North Korea and Iran, was expected to speak during the confab.
The Permanent Mission of Nicaragua was expected to make a statement later Thursday.
Maria Reyes, 40, a Nicaraguan who lives in New York, came to the consulate to pay respects.
“This is just terrible. I feel horrible,” she said. “He was a wonderful person.”
She said Mercado always threw a party at the consulate on Dec. 7 for the Day of Virgin Maria, and was a great host.
“He was a beautiful person,” said Reyes’ husband Freddy Vallejo.
Sounds like Mercado might have been taken out by a hooker - he perhaps refused to pay?
“Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, a fierce critic of the United States and a defender of North Korea and Iran, was expected to speak during the confab.”
Didn’t know that - amazing to think that anyone would really support N. Korea and Iran.
Another theory..he had DPL paltes, probably racked up thousands in unpaid tickets, and was killed for his parking space..this will be on Law & Order in a few months..
