Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) is vowing to block a Senate vote to confirm President Obamas choice to head the White House Office of Management and Budget unless a temporary ban on offshore oil-and-gas drilling is removed.
Her pledge to hold up the nomination of Jack Lew represents a dramatic political escalation of Landrieus fight against the federal moratorium on deepwater drilling and the slowdown in permits for shallow water projects.
Due to the Administrations unwillingness to reverse or modify its policies that have halted all deepwater and nearly all shallow-water energy exploration, I cannot in good conscience allow this nomination to proceed until I receive a commitment from Mr. Lew, the President, or another senior economic advisor to reverse these policies, which have been so detrimental to working families across the Gulf Coast, Landrieu wrote in a letter Thursday to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
Thank you for that information.
She’ll be up for election in 2014
“Is she the one they call “Baby Cakes”?”
No, Rush calls her Baby Fat.
“Shell be up for election in 2014”
Dang!!!!
Thank you.
And sorry for the double post.
I think it is time for some tougher measures - first a sit in that has the oil rig workers blocking a highway...it ten locations shutting down north sout and east west traffic. Then a law suit against the government and environmental groups that have talked up the ban.
She’s not on the ballot this year...unfortunately, because in this environment we’d likely grab that seat...also unfortunate Debbie Stabenow is not up for re-election this go around, too.
