People should recall that we had a recession going on at the time...the Bush tax cuts had yet to make an impact...and for five-seven days after 9/11 nobody bought anything.

Restaurant parking lots were empty. Shopping malls were vacant. Retailers were dying. Layoffs were already happening.

Laugh if you will, but it needed to be said. And Bush said it.

I think you might want to re-think that. Just three weeks before Kenndy got assassinated, he had directed the Joints Chief of Staff to stand down our effort in Vietnam and put a halt to the war effort there. His direct quote was that “American boys should not be doing what Vietnamese boys should be doing in Southeast Asia”. After his demise, LBJ went full steam ahead and the rest is history.
