Yahoo News editor Andrew Golis says star reporter John Cook is quitting to re-join Gawker because "he prefers the license Gawker gave him to add his opinions into his reporting to the scale and credibility Yahoo! News could offer."
John tells AOL's Jeff Bercovici that's hogwash.
He says he quit Yahoo because they censored him like crazy.
Bercovici reports:
In one instance, Cook was forced to bowdlerize a quotation from New York Times reporter James Risen; he was told that referring to masturbation, even euphemistically, was unacceptable. On similar grounds, he was prohibited from writing about the conservative website Free Republic hosting child pornography. Most glaringly, he was told that a proposed story on the Obama Administration raising the salary of White House staffers by 9% lacked the necessary balance; it was killed

hmmmm...well he apparently is still defending FR (at least on this smear) because I copied his comment from the link in the thread.
There are many pictures from tinypic links floating around in archives that have been changed from the originals..mostly harmless..but I have a framed flower picture (tinypic link)in my files I went to use a few months ago that was changed to adult porn..really porn.
I haven’t used tinypic at all lately..fearing some hacker might change my picture!
I have never seen one child porn picture posted here...and I have lurked since 2000.
i am not a troll! 100 conservative and running for township board in nw indiana.
I wasn't talking about you. I never even noticed you nor mentioned your name. Why would you even think that?
Screw libel claims; what he did was distribution of child pornography and is a crime.
Agree 100%. I was just trying to give some history to the story. Not sure when any of this happened, but got the impression that it happened a while back.
Report the sob to the fbi.
I have no personal knowledge of the incident, so am not the best person to report the guy. Just found the info in the comment section at the link yesterday. I am sure Jim is exploring all of his options. He should also sue the hell out of AOL and the Washington Post. It looks like they have repeated the libel.
I believe that what the reporter if referring to is the picture of the girl from FLDS that was forced into marriage at an early age.
IIRC, there were comments that because the girl was underage at the time of the photo, (even though she was completely dressed), it ‘could’ be considered child porn (which was completely laughable).
I don't see a problem here. It's not like reporters even have a passing knowledge of truth or the slightest shred of decency.
Since I've never seen child porn sites advertised or 'run into' them while surfing the web, this 'reporter' must have spent a lot of time finding them.
Maybe it's his hobby.
I can see from the majority of comments on here, that I am wrong about the original incident.
OH well, next time I’ll read the whole thread before I post.
(well.... I’ll try)
Yahoo didn't want him posting child porn either?
LOL..I hope the dude is ruined by this whole thing. He deserves nothing less.
They obviously don't get out much.
anyone who would have a “DailyKOS journal” is incompetent to pose as any objective honest journalist
Are you sure his name isn’t John Kook?
